DEPARTMENT: OperationsThe following information provides an overview of the skills, qualities, and qualifications needed for this role.JOB TITLE: Academic AdvisorsCLASSIFICATION: ExemptREPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Academic AdvisorsJOB GOAL:The Academic Advisor provides guidance, support, and customer service to students and families. The Academic Advisor is responsible to analyze, verify, and record external and internal school records and to ensure students are progressing towards grade level promotion and graduation requirements. The Academic Advisor serves as the first point of contact for families and is a key communicator of important school information.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degreeValid and active Pennsylvania teaching certificationChild Abuse Clearance; Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) ClearanceESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide quality customer service and support for all studentsCommunicate important school information to families via phone and email in a timely mannerField incoming parent and student calls and respond to emails and voicemails within 24 hoursAdvise students on appropriate course selectionsSchedule courses and order materials as necessaryMaintain accurate contact logs and academic records for studentsGather all academic records and continuously verify/update academic historiesPlan, organize, and facilitate orientations for new studentsMonitor, verify, and gather appropriate information/documentation and process requests for student data and residency changesIdentify student issues, make appropriate referrals, and assist in developing student success plansRequest course extensions for third party coursesAssist Attendance Office and Child Accounting Office as requestedIdentify and refer ELL students to the ESL Program CoordinatorSubmit IAT requests and provide pertinent information when requested (current grades, benchmark assessment results, and state assessment results)Track graduation requirementsTrack Keystone requirementsSubmit course transfer requestsComplete student withdrawals as necessaryProcess grade level promotions and retentionsParticipate in enrollment events as requested by Director or Assistant Director of Academic AdvisorsSchedule students for state assessments and drive student participationProctor PSSA and Keystone testingParticipate in at least 2 promotional and/or extracurricular eventsComplete official forms and letters: Social Security, medical insurance, car insurance, welfare, etc.Keep up-to-date regarding all school policies, procedures, and programs in order to assist PA Cyber students and familiesReport school eligibility requirements to students home school district as requestedFollow approved procedures for releasing student recordsInitiate requests for student technology support and process orders for basic student technology materialsParticipate in meetings and assist departments in gathering student information as requestedPerform any additional duties as deemed necessary by the administrationPHYSICAL DEMANDS:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
