Job DescriptionTerms of Employment: 12 MONTHSExemption Status: EXEMPTSalary Scale: EACC - A2_ISEDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE•Master's Degree required.•Advanced Professional Certificate with Special Education endorsements required.•Minimum of 5 years teaching experience of students with significant disabilities required.QUALIFICATIONS•Experience with the preparation and implementation of alternate assessments.•Knowledge of best practices in instruction and instructional methodologies for students with significant cognitive disabilities•Evidence of exemplary human relation skills. •Evidence of exemplary organizational and planning skills. •Evidence of ability to work and communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS•Provides support and consultation to school based and Central Office staff.•Participates collaboratively with school-based teams of regular and special education teachers.•Identifies and develops staff training needs related to Special Education compliance.•Chairs the Central IEP committee for disciplinary reviews and other Central Office IEP meetings.•Participates in reviews of IEPs for instructional and legal compliance. •Administers and interprets individual assessments.•Completes observations in schools.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES•Develops and implements school specific and system-wide staff development activities.•Acts as a liaison between the Office of Special Education and building administrators.•Conducts parent surrogate training.•Acts as the liaison for all Special Education discipline and compliance related problems when appropriate.•Supports the dispute resolution process (due process, state complaints, and mediation)•Represents Special Education in all truancy proceedings.•Participates in both district wide and state-based committees.ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSThe environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard.
