Position Type: Support Staff/Special Education AssistantDate Posted: 6/5/2024Location: Hillside SchoolDate Available: 8/15/2024Special Education Paraprofessional Perform duties to work with assigned special education middle school student(s) to ensure that the students' learning and behavioral objectives are achieved, which may include the following:
Provide classroom assistance with students in reinforcing learning. Work positively with all students, including students with special needs. Follow behavioral management plans of the classroom teacher. Responsible for safety protocols as outlined in the School Emergency Operations Plan. Anticipate student needs and tutor individual and small groups of students. Support the general classroom learning activities in a positive and enthusiastic manner. Assist in the supervision of students as directed by the classroom teacher. Communicate effectively with students, teachers, and parents. Participate in professional development activities which will help improve the ability to work more effectively with students. Maintain records as requested by the classroom teacher. Be able to effectively communicate observations of students, when appropriate. Supervise students in the hallways, study hall, detention, cafeteria, and recess, as needed. Be respectful to others and courteous to teachers. Develop and maintain friendly and positive relationship with students. Comply promptly and cheerfully to request made by Building Administration. Observe all Board of Education policies, regulations, administrative rules, and procedures. Guard the confidentiality of all information placed in the charge of this office. Breach of this trust shall be grounds for dismissal Perform such other duties as may be assigned by School Office Administration. Required Qualifications: To be considered for a position as a teacher assistant, applicants MUST have Educator License with Stipulations (ELS): Endorsed as a Paraprofessional Educator. For those without the above, applicants must meet at least one of the four requirements:
- Be at least 20 years of age and;
- Associate's degree or higher; or
- 60 semester hours of coursework; or
- High School Diploma or GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS ParaPro test; or
- High School Diploma or GED and the following scores on the ACT Work Keys test:
- Applied Mathematics - 4
- Reading for Information - 4
- Writing or Business Writing - 3
Additional Qualifications:
Be of good health and character. Be able to follow both written and oral directions. Be willing to work with and around adults and children. Be able to follow a set of work schedules, and procedures. Be willing to learn new skills, and follow directions. Experience working with children in a school environment, preferred.
