Job Title: Special Education Aide-RESETWage/Hour Status: Non-ExemptReports to: Principal Pay Grade: CP3Dept./School: Assigned CampusAnnual Work Days Scheduled: 187Primary Purpose:ISET (Intensive Social Emotional Teaching) is designed to support students who have significant social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Students require specialized and intensive academic and behavioral instruction in self-contained special education settings with a continued focus on supporting student skill development to enable them to successfully transition into general education settings.Qualifications:Education/Certification:High School Diploma or GEDValid Texas Education Aide Certification PreferredSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Ability to work well with children with disabilitiesAbility to follow verbal and written directivesAbility to communicate effectivelyExperience:Two years experience working with childrenMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Student ManagementHelp meet the individual needs of students, including transferring them to and from wheelchairs, lifting and positioning them, and signing or interpreting instructions for them, etc.Help students take care of physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.Help manage the behavior of assigned students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and restraining disruptive or dangerous student behavior as needed.Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.Work with assigned students or small groups to develop motor skills and conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.Assist assigned students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This includes lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of assigned students.Instructional SupportAssist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.Help with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment.Help teacher keep administrative records and prepared required reportsProvide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.OtherMaintain confidentiality.Supervisory Responsibilities:None.Working Conditions:Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals; wheelchair lift, ramp, and other instructional equipment that may be required by student needPosture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twistingMotion: Frequent walkingLifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive and other classroom equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hoursEnvironment: Exposure to biological hazardsMental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress
