We have an opening for a Special Education Teacher to provide instruction to 7th & 8th grade students in a self-contained classroom.An SLCS teacher is responsible for planning, instruction, activities and assessments based on the SLCS curriculum. Teachers are tasked with creating an integrated instructional program that supports an inclusion-based learning approach fostering a safe environment that respects academic and cultural diversity. Additionally, teachers are expected to work together with other teaching and support professionals in a collaborative manner to provide teaching strategies and methods that address a wide range of learning styles, individual needs, interests, abilities, and maturity levels of students.Among other things, the Learning Support Teacher is responsible for:
- Assessing students' developmental, cognitive, emotional and social needs and learning styles
- Completing academic testing as required, utilizing the resulting information along with classroom observations to identify students to be placed in or out of the Special Education program
- Developing, monitoring, and reporting on all IEPs within the established guidelines
- Providing case management to identified Special Education students; this includes but is not limited to arranging and verifying all IEP team meetings, issuing documentation in compliance with federal time lines for all special education processes and maintaining all related documentation
- Ensuring differentiated instruction, accommodations, modifications and other IEP considerations are occurring consistently as outlined in the IEP
- Completing IEP Progress Reports for each student to coincide with progress reports issued on a trimester basis
- Acting as an advocate for all students to ensure that their needs are being met
- Evaluating student performance and sharing information with the classroom teacher, support teachers, and administration
- Working in cooperation with classroom teachers to identify students who may be at risk academically and/or behaviorally, and creating/implementing RtI plans as necessary
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
- Pennsylvania Department of Education Certification in Special Education (7-12 or K-12)
- International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme experience a plus
- Understanding and commitment to inclusive learning
- Strong research, planning, and organizational skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience with MS Office
