Position Type: Special Education/ESS Teacher Date Posted: 12/4/2023Location: Chavez/Huerta K-12 Preparatory AcademyDate Available: 02/05/2024POSITION: ESS Resource Teacher RESPONSIBLE TO: K-12 Director of Student Support Services DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: Abides by and supports the vision, mission, values, policies and procedures of Chavez/Huerta K-12 Preparatory Academy. The Resource Teacher teaches identified students within assigned grade levels by utilizingcurriculum material adopted by the school as well as appropriate supplemental and teacher-made materials; Develops appropriate lesson plans that accommodate the range of learning styles and specialized needs of students in the classroom; Creates a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement, and self-motivation; Actively participates in school improvement activities, curriculum development, teaming, and collaboration; Maintains all appropriate exceptional student services forms, Individual Education Programs (IEP's), GT Advanced Learning Plans (ALPs), Section 504 plans and other records mandated by regulation and school policy. Collects data and documents progress on academic and social-emotional goals of ESS students no less than Quarterly. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor's degree required; Masters Degree preferred. Colorado Department of Education license or eligible for Elementary or Secondary Teacher license with endorsement in K-12, Special Education Generalist OR Special Education Specialist required. 2. Demonstrated knowledge of Special Education Law, federal and state level. 3. Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. 4. Demonstrated autonomy, organization, assertiveness and flexibility in performing job responsibilities. 5. Demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in all communications, respecting the student's confidentiality. Ability to create and maintain good working relationships with all school personnel, families, and community members. 6. Demonstrate a strong commitment to strengthen parents' perspectives, empower families and have a willingness to work in a high demanding work situation that requires flexibility and innovativeness. 7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel. 8. Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the state of Colorado; maintain insurance in accordance with state and/or organization requirements and maintain automobile in good working order. JOB DUTIES / KNOWLEDGE PERFORMANCE 1. Provide timely assessments (according to federal and state guidelines), formal and informal, to determine academic and social strengths and weaknesses, as well as to determine the best mode of instruction. 2. Implement testing procedures in accordance with school policies and state guidelines. 3. Use assessment data to develop appropriate IEPs and plan appropriate instruction. 4. Analyze general lesson presentation and anticipate how learning will occur for special education students through reflective practices. Identify curricular skills and concepts when developing and implementing instructional plans. Identify pupil needs and work with professional staff members in assessing and helping students in all areas of their development. 5. Identify and communicate performance expectations and document the degree to which the students meet expectation. 6. As necessary, request district resources (ie PT, OT, School Nurse, Vision Specialist, etc) through the Director of ESS to provide assessments and services to students and attend necessary IEP meetings. 7. Consult with Special Education staff, including School Psychologist and Speech and Language Therapist regarding program enrollment and ongoing concerns. 8. Demonstrate various teaching techniques that address the multiple intelligences and learning styles. Evaluate the success of lessons by utilizing assessments to determine how students transfer and apply their knowledge base to new information. 9. Participate in grade level team meetings with which you are assigned. 10. Anticipate needs and demonstrate efficiency and organization when transitioning from one activity to another. 11. Assist teachers in the implementation of behavior support plans, which establish and maintain a safe and secure environment that is conducive to learning for all students. 12. Handle identified IEP student-related problems and show evidence of seeking supportive help. 13. Communicate on a consistent basis with students' parents, Director of ESS or support staff as necessary. 14. Assist in creating a learning environment that encourages social interaction, active engagement, and self-motivation and promotes independence. 15. Evaluate each student's progress and accurately report and record such progress. Document progress on academic and social-emotional goals and objectives in classroom file. Meet quarterly with parents to discuss their student's progress. 16. Collect data regarding student progress in response to interventions and services and correlate with overall academic progress; maintain data binder throughout school year. 17. Maintain record of services provided to provide necessary documentation to school, parents, District and for Medicaid billing. 18. Attend trainings and administer WIDA ACCESS and CO-Alt, Proctor TCAP/ACT. 19. Work closely with RtI Coordinator to ascertain Response to Intervention (RtI) process and progress monitoring is completed; provide interventions to students at Tier 3 on their RtI plan, including small group or 1:1 instruction, pre-teach, and re-teach. 20. Other duties as assigned - which may include mentoring Resource Teacher(s). Job Duties Specific to Speech/Language students: 21. Attend all IEP meetings for speech children assigned to caseload. 22. Implement IEP with assistance from the Speech and Language Pathologist. 23. Keep session notes to help track and document progress. 24. Attend all ESS planning meetings, share progress of students, and ask questions regarding speech services for students on your caseload.
