Position Type: Middle School TeachingDate Posted: 6/21/2023Location: Southampton Middle SchoolPosition Title: Middle School Special Education Teacher Location: Southampton County Public Schools Reports To: Principal Job Summary: The Middle School Special Education Teacher is responsible for providing individualized and specialized instruction to middle school students with diverse learning needs. This role involves developing and implementing personalized education plans, collaborating with general education teachers, and creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment. Key Responsibilities:
Individualized Instruction: - Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with special needs, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Provide tailored instruction and support to meet the unique academic, social, and emotional needs of each student.
- Utilize a variety of teaching strategies, materials, and technologies to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
Assessment and Progress Monitoring: - Conduct formal and informal assessments to evaluate student progress and determine instructional needs.
- Monitor and document student performance, providing timely and constructive feedback to students and families.
- Adjust instructional strategies and interventions based on assessment data and student progress.
Collaboration and Support: - Collaborate with general education teachers, school counselors, and other support staff to ensure a cohesive and integrated educational experience for students.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss and develop strategies for student support and progress.
- Work closely with families to provide updates on student progress, address concerns, and involve them in the educational process.
Classroom Management and Environment: - Create and maintain a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that supports students' academic and behavioral needs.
- Implement and enforce classroom rules and procedures to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

- Deliver instruction in a variety of formats, including one-on-one, small group, and classroom settings.
Professional Development and Growth: - Stay current with advancements in special education, instructional strategies, and best practices through professional development.
- Share knowledge and expertise with colleagues, contributing to the development of school-wide strategies for special education.

Crisis Management and Support: - Respond to and manage crisis situations effectively, providing appropriate interventions and support.
- Develop and implement behavior intervention plans as needed to address challenging behaviors and promote positive outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field.
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
- Previous experience teaching students with special needs at the middle school level preferred.
- Strong knowledge of special education laws, instructional strategies, and best practices.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and assistive tools.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a classroom setting.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for school functions and professional development.
