Contract PositionVarious Positions - Various Schools$50/hrFT & PTJan - School End Job Title: Special Education TeacherJob Summary:The Special Education Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs, creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and collaborating with parents, teachers, and specialists to foster the academic, social, and emotional development of students with diverse abilities.Key Responsibilities:
Instruction and Curriculum Development- Design and deliver lessons tailored to meet the needs of students with disabilities, including cognitive, emotional, physical, and learning challenges.
- Use a variety of teaching methods, such as direct instruction, hands-on activities, and technology-assisted learning tools.
- Modify general education curriculum to accommodate individual learning styles and abilities.
Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)- Develop, implement, and evaluate IEPs in collaboration with parents, school staff, and other specialists.
- Monitor student progress and adjust educational plans as necessary.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws regarding special education (e.g., IDEA).
Classroom and Behavior Management- Create a safe, engaging, and structured learning environment.
- Develop and implement positive behavioral intervention strategies to address challenging behaviors.
- Foster student independence and self-advocacy skills.
Collaboration and Communication- Work closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff to ensure inclusion and access to the curriculum.
- Maintain open and ongoing communication with parents/guardians about student progress and concerns.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and provide input on student evaluations.
Assessment and Documentation- Conduct assessments to determine student strengths, needs, and progress.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records, including attendance, progress reports, and IEP documentation.
Professional Development- Stay current with best practices, instructional strategies, and special education laws through ongoing professional development.
- Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions as required.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Certification: Valid state teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education.
- Experience: Previous experience working with students with disabilities is highly desirable.
