Position Title: Special Education Team Chair Location: Foster Elementary School Terms of Employment: This is a full-time position, temporary position which will end in June, 2025 Job Description: Team Chairs implement and oversee all necessary procedures to meet special education compliance standards as outlined by the federal and state regulations as well as policies and procedures of the Hingham Public Schools. The Team Chair will report to the Administrator of Elementary Special Education, Building Principals, and Assistant Director of Student Services, and will work closely with the Guidance and Special Education Departments to ensure Section 504 and IDEA compliance. Qualifications: -Master's Degree or higher with a major in Special Education, Psychology, or Related Field. -Appropriate licensure under Massachusetts DESE regulations and requirements. -Working knowledge of Section 504, Massachusetts Special Education Regulations and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. -Ability to handle a multitude of varying and complex issues. -Excellent oral and written communication skills. -Ability to effectively partner with families and collaborate with numerous stakeholders. Responsibilities: -Supervise and coordinate evaluation teams in evaluating and educationally diagnosing children as well as determining eligibility for special education. Designating the appropriate educational programming, including making further recommendations as necessary (e.g. further testing, 504 consideration). -Chair initial, re-evaluation, annual review, and Team reconvene meetings. -Monitor and complete the paperwork process associated with special education, including overseeing the development of IEPs, completion of comprehensive evaluations, and distribution of special education paperwork within scheduled timelines. -Chair and complete all IEPs for students who are in a private or unilateral placement. -Stay informed and have knowledge of in-district programming. -Ensure transition planning for students as they move from grade to grade. -Ensure students are educated in the least restrictive setting and the district is providing a free and appropriate public education. -Keep Team members informed of a student's special education needs. -Ensure all appropriate staff (e.g. School Psychologist, Special Education Administrator) are informed of rejections, partial rejections, independent evaluation, and placement requests and complete any necessary follow-up. -Work diligently to resolve all conflicts; participate in mediation and BSEA processes as necessary -Communicate regularly with teachers, parents/guardians, outside providers, related service providers, and principals. -Participate in department meetings and collaborate regularly with colleagues. -Knowledge and skills with technology and IEP software (e.g. Google Suite, Aspen X2) -Ability to operate computer, printer, telephone, copier, facsimile machine, and all other standard office equipment. -Sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building. -Perform any other duties and assume responsibilities that may be required by the Special Education Department, Assistant Superintendent, or the Superintendent of Schools.
