Position Summary: The Special Inspector's primary responsibility is to conduct onsite inspections throughout NYC and provide reports throughout the construction process within their area of expertise. Inspectors will ensure the proper execution of all drawings and specifications by contractors. The ideal candidate should establish and uphold professional working relationships with architects, engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, and the general public. Responsibilities:
  • Thoroughly review and proofread plans, specifications, codes, shop drawings, submittals, procedures, reports, memos, and other correspondence exchanged among involved parties.
  • Generate and submit daily reports using company standard checklists via mobile devices, incorporating essential details such as general conditions, weather conditions, on-site activities, work hours, work descriptions, equipment usage, adherence to standards, and a summary of reviewed drawings/submittals, as necessary.
  • Validate contractor compliance with codes, regulations, specifications, plans, sketches, and other relevant documentation.
  • Occasional paid overtime (evenings and/or weekends) is necessary.
Qualifications, Education, and Experience:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, AWS or ICC certifications in Structural Steel and ACI certifications for Concrete Special Inspector or Grade 1 Technician or better, scaffold certification, OSHA 10 HR certificate and relevant construction experience required, or;
  • Relevant construction experience and AWS or ICC certifications for Structural Steel (welding & High Strength Bolting), ACI or ICC Concrete Special Inspector/technician, ICC Commercial Mechanical Inspector certification, Scaffold certification, OSHA 10 HR certificate and relevant construction experience required, and;
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in NYC commercial construction or construction management.
  • Additional certifications (preferable but not required):
    • ICC Certification for Sprinkler, Spray Fireproofing, Fire Stopping, Wood Framing, Soils, and Post Installed Anchors.
    • PE license
    • ICC Structural Masonry
  • Superior Communication skills both written & verbal. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, given the need to collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders in the construction process.
  • Proficiency in using Mobile Devices, PCs, including software such as Word, Adobe Acrobat, and Excel, is essential for effective documentation and reporting.
  • Familiarity with the New York City Department of Building codes and the Building Information System (BIS & DOBNOW) websites is beneficial, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements in the construction field.
Customer Service: Demonstrate flexibility in satisfying customer demands in a high-volume production environment. Maintains the highest levels of customer care while demonstrating a friendly and cooperative attitude either verbally or written communication. Work Environment: The work environment for this position involves a dynamic and active setting within the construction industry. It encompasses a combination of office-based responsibilities and fieldwork, necessitating a versatile approach. The individual will be exposed to various construction sites across all boroughs of New York City, requiring adaptability to different project conditions and environments. In the office, the candidate will engage in tasks related to plan review, report generation, and communication with stakeholders. Compensation: Milrose Consultants, LLC is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Salary ranges are determined through alignment with market data. Base salary offered is determined by several factors including the candidate's experience, qualifications, and skills. Hourly Range: $45.00- $65.00 USDPhysical Demands:
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Fieldwork may involve physical activities such as walking stairs, climbing ladders, scaffolding, and navigating construction sites.
  • The employee should be comfortable with the practical aspects of the construction process, including mandatory use of PPE, interaction with construction personnel and the inspection of diverse scopes of work.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time in-person position, and the hours of work and days are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Travel: Daily Travel to multiple construction sites as expected for this position. Punctuality for scheduled inspections & witness testing is essential to this position. Associate may be required to attend meetings at the discretion of management and/or if it is project related.
