To be eligible to work as a Special Education Teacher, you need your bachelors degree and a state-issued certification or license. Depending on your area of interest or expertise, PTS will place you in a primary or a secondary school where you can apply your skills.In addition to understanding special education methods and modalities, it is important to have good interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. If youre still completing your education, ask your college or university about fieldwork opportunities that may be available to gain hands-on experience with PTS.As a Special Education Teacher engaging with PTS, you may work a 10-month school year or choose to work during the Extended School Year (ESY). During the day-to-day, you will provide instruction to students living with a range of physical and mental disabilities as well as modify and tailor educational curriculum and:
- Design, carry out, and monitor IEPs
- Provide 1-on-1 and group instruction
- Conduct assessments and evaluations
- Help students achieve their educational goals
- Collaborate with other service, teachers, and administrators
Along with these activities, you may also meet with parents and guardians, supervise aides, and participate in ongoing training to learn about related disciplines.
