Position Purpose
Area Advisors provide guidance on a multitude of safety and security related matters to campus administrators and work collaboratively with various departments to create and maintain a safe and secure campus environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Liaison on behalf of the Safety & Security Department with various entities such as administrators, law enforcement, security staff, and community partners.
* Elevates campus safety by 1) providing accurate and professional guidance on security related topics, 2) identifying safety hazards and security risks, 3) providing accurate reports of safety, security, and emergency events that occur on assigned campuses.
* Assist administrators with annual updates and maintenance of the campus emergency operations plans.
* Provides incident reports to appropriate contacts at juvenile probation, law enforcement agencies, Student Discipline & Placement, and Safety & Security.
* Responds to calls for assistance at campuses during emergency situations.
* Provides guidance and advice to students, parents, and administrators when school policy and/or law violations have occurred.
* Participates in staff meetings to provide training on standard response protocols and security related topics in assigned schools as requested.
* Transports students and/or District employees in district vehicles as needed.
* Instruct and train administrators in the use of security systems, access control and other security related systems and equipment.
* Educate administrators on emergency operations procedures and response protocols.
Safety
* Ensures tools and equipment are in safe operating condition.
* Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing; operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
* Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and promptly reports any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibility
* Supervise campus monitors assigned to the same pyramid of schools.

Travel Requirements
* Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Physical & Mental Demands, Work Hazards
* Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals; mobile phones and two-way radios.
* Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional stooping, squatting, kneeling, bending, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
* Motion: Frequent repetitive hand motions, including keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; frequent walking; frequent driving.
* Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift students weighing in excess of 50 lbs. when necessary.
* Exerting Force: Occasional exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force, and frequently exerting 10 to 25 pounds of force to move objects.
* Environment: Works 90% in an office setting and 10% outdoors, exposed to weather elements; may require frequent irregular and/or prolonged hours including late nights and weekends; may need to protect oneself, may be in crisis mode while managing others.
* Attendance: Regular and punctual attendance at the worksite is required for this position.
* Mental Demands: Maintains emotional control under stress; works with frequent interruptions; frequently exercises good judgment.
* Other: Specific hearing and visual requirements. May be subject to adverse and hazardous working conditions, including violent and armed confrontations. Ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.
Minimum Required Qualifications
* Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
* Certification/License: None.
* Experience:
* 5 years' experience in public education, law enforcement, emergency management, or related field. Supervisory experience preferred.
* Experience working with school security or emergency management preferred.
* Language: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred in some settings.
INSURABILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL DRIVERS
* Must be at least 21 years old.
* NO positive drug or alcohol tests including pre-employment, random, post-accident or reasonable suspicion.
* Driving and accident record:
Valid Texas Department of Public Safety Driver Record Check Type 3A-Certified list of all crashes and violations
* NO more than 2 violations during previous 36 months including:
* moving traffic violations (including no more than 1 preventable accident);
* failure to provide proof of valid driver's license or proof of insurance;
* equipment violations.
* NO Driving Under the Influence (DUI) for drug or alcohol.
* NO leaving scene of an accident (bodily injury or physical damage).
* NO vehicular assault, manslaughter, or homicide.
* NO operating a vehicle with suspended or revoked driver's license.
* NO reckless driving, speed contests, drag racing, or highway racing.
* NO use of a vehicle in commission of a felony.
* NO operating a vehicle without owner's permission (unauthorized use or grand theft).
* NO permitting an unlicensed person to drive.
* NO speeding more than 20 mph over the posted speed limit.
* NO history of a conviction in a commercial or personal motor vehicle.
* Additional restrictions may apply if directed by FWISD's Fleet Insurance Carrier.
