Must be knowledgeable in Chemical Hygiene Plan, hazardous communication, laboratory procedures, personal protective equipment and air monitoring, chemical procurement and the Chemical Inventory System. Review laboratory procedures. Assist in statistical analysis of Laboratory Safety related data. Document control of Chemical Hygiene Plan and other related standard operating procedures. Conduct Laboratory Safety training. Participate in continual improvement of Laboratory Safety process. Assist with response to laboratory incidents, non-laboratory inspections, and security programs. Assists with management of programs to include bloodborne pathogen, respiratory protection, noise, and ergonomic evaluations.Must pass post-offer physical and annually thereafter. Must be able to pass respiratory fit test, be able to work while wearing a respirator and comply with OSHA requirements.Regular exposure to physically demanding and hazardous tasks including walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, lifting, standing, reaching and climbing stairs/ladders.Must be able to lift in excess of 50 pounds.Working conditions range from clean to dirty atmospheres under all types of conditions and weather.Handles all types of hazardous materials including, but not limited to, flammables, acids, caustics, carcinogens, pesticides, teratogens, explosives, etc.Also, obtains and analyzes samples of dangerous chemicals and substances. Performs chemical spill cleanups and assists with waste chemical pickups.Employee is expected to work a reasonable amount of overtime serving as a first-aid responder at university sponsored events.Special Instructions to ApplicantsPlease submit a cover letter and resume. Education & ExperiencePosition Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications: High School/GED and four years relevant experience conducting surveys, following hazardous communications, using laboratory PPE, and/or participating in laboratory incident response. Or an associate degree in chemistry or bio-science and two years of relevant experience. Valid Drivers License. A valid driver's license must be maintained for the operation of an OSU vehicle, which is required in the performance of job duties as assigned. 24-hour HAZWOPER training. If needed, certifications will be provided by the department within six months of employment. Additional recertification will be provided throughout employment as required to remain up to date. Certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED. If needed, certifications will be provided by the department within six months of employment. Additional recertification will be provided throughout employment as required to remain up to date. Ability to communicate well (verbally and written) with good report writing skills. Must be detail oriented and able to interact well and work with people. Must have a working knowledge of laboratory related OSHA regulations, industrial standards, and best work practices. Ability to work with a variety of backgrounds at all levels within the University. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Computer skills to include operation and utilization of various software programs to include MS office. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in chemistry or bio-science. Experience following hazardous communications, using laboratory PPE, and laboratory safety. Experience in performing audits of Biological Safety Laboratories (BSL) and Animal Biological Safety Laboratories (ABSL).
