Job Description:
The Specialist, Systems Engineer (SE) performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and troubleshooting for total systems and or subsystems. The Specialist SE is part of a team that supports the requirements, design, development, test, and integration of complex, specialized hardware/software systems installed on ground and airborne communication platforms.
Essential Functions:
- Understand physical architectures incorporating voice, video, and data capability across multiple security domains
- Review and evaluate electrical wiring diagrams to ensure design details trace to system requirements
- Understand test, integration, verification, and validation planning
- Write effective verification test procedures ensuring system performance and capabilities meet system requirements
- Translate the voice of the customer into system level requirements
- Perform requirement traceability
- Develop and evaluate trade studies for accuracy and completeness
- Write subsystem specifications based on system level requirements
- Evaluate alternative solutions and establish preliminary system designs
- Prepare effective presentations to communicate technical information to non-technical professionals
- Perform other duties as assigned
Job Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with minimum of 2 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
- Must have an active DoD Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret (SCI) security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Hands-on experience with testing, integrating, and verifying software and/or hardware in a multi-domain mobile airborne data-link, video, and voice systems environment
- Experience with Aircraft communication system integration and communications ground/flight test support
- Experience with configuration and integration of aircraft RF and satellite communications systems, or cryptographic equipment
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Working knowledge of LAN and VOIP protocols to include IP routing
- Knowledge of mission systems: EO/IR, Video, Networks, SI/EW, etc.
- Model-based Systems Engineering and Simulation experience
- Troubleshooting and multi-level testing for RF applications
- Knowledge of requirement traceability methods and purpose
- Knowledge of the systems engineering trade study process
- Experience conducting verification testing
- Experience working with subcontractors and U.S. Government customers
- Experience developing, authoring, and implementing system test plans
- Engineering efforts involving FAA-certified general category aircraft
- Excellent written, oral, and presentation communications skills
