Salary: $18.00 - $25.00 HourlyLocation : Columbia, MDJob Type: ContingentJob Number: 8985 - #######4Department: Recreation & ParksOpening Date: 12/19/2024Closing Date: 6/14/2025 12:00 AM EasternPOSITION SUMMARY/CLASS DESCRIPTION BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Under the immediate supervision and direction of a Recreation Manager or Coordinator, the Director oversees, directs, and is responsible for the daily operations and administrative responsibilities of a specialized camp for children, youth, or teens. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES DUTIES:
Serve as a positive role model.Ensure children are properly supervised and accurate attendance is maintained AT ALL TIMES. Communicate clearly and courteously with school personnel, program staff, parents, volunteers and children. Oversee & direct the planning and implementation of a well-rounded program of recreational activities including: music, games, drama, arts and crafts, social activities and special events. (Activities may vary depending upon the specific requirements of each camp). Document and report all accidents, incidents, property damage, major disciplinary problems, and any related concerns to the Program Supervisor within 24 hours of occurrence.Maintain cleanliness of the facility, including picking up trash, sweeping floor daily, setting up and taking down of equipment, etc.Ensure necessary supplies are available for Camp Activities. Pick up snacks and supplies from the Department's Headquarters when needed. Adhere to established uniform at all times. Dress appropriately for taking an active role with children.Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of camp staff, inclusion companion(s) and/or interpreter, and volunteers. Complete evaluation reports and verify time cards of camp staff, inclusion companion(s) and/or interpreter, and volunteers.Oversee and direct the completion and securing of Camp Participant Information Forms for each participant.Oversee & direct the preparing weekly calendar and post on site.Oversee & direct the preparation of camp newsletter or correspondence.Implement and ensure compliance of all Howard County Recreation and Parks Policies, Procedures, and Camp Standards. Attend mandatory staff meetings and in-service trainings.Administer medication on an as-needed basis.Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Program Supervisor.SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:
- Must be 21 years old.
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, peers and participants.
- Knowledge of program curriculum.
- Must possess, or have the ability to obtain, certification in Standard First Aid and Infant & Child CPR.
MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE EXPERIENCE:
- Professional experience working with children, youth or teens.
- Previous Experience in teaching/leading recreational activities and special events.
- Previous experience supervising staff.
EDUCATION:
- Completion of High School.
- Formal Training pertaining to the specific skill being taught.
RATE OF PAY:Salary commensurate with education and experience.Contingent (Paraprofessional) - $18 - $25 per hour.
