Job SummaryUnder the direction of the Director of Laboratory Services, Operations Coordinator and Laboratory Manager, the Specimen Processor registers and orders patient tests in computer system(s).
Core Job Responsibilities- Picks-up and/or processes specimens for laboratory testing and routes them to the appropriate department
- Perform receptionist duties, maintains records and files, prints, faxes and mails patient reports
- Obtains follow up information on any and all missing insurance and/or demographic information
- Verify all applicable insurances through appropriate verification system
- Maintain records and files in designated areas throughout the lab. Scans scripts/requisitions/orders during every registration.
- Scan reference lab reports into the computer system as they are received and is able to retrieve scanned documents.
- Check for Medicare covered diagnosis utilizing current software. Obtains a waiver when necessary.
- Prepare samples for testing to include centrifugation, checking specimens for appropriate testing levels and brings specimen concerns to the attention of a technologist.
- Follow Trauma protocols for ordering trauma tests if not already ordered when specimens are received in the lab to avoid delays in testing.
- Contact physician offices and nursing homes to obtain information missing from scripts/requisitions or orders and to obtain an insurance covered diagnosis. Documentation is complete.
Education/Experience RequirementsREQUIRED:
- High school diploma or equivalent
PREFERRED:
- 1 year related experience
