POSITION OVERVIEWAbout the PositionThe primary role of the Special Education teacher is to support students that have an Individual Education Plan. This person would be a primary contact for parents and teachers. This person is responsible for keeping updated IEP's and MET's. The teacher is responsible for collaborating with classroom teachers on the student's IEP and needed support for the students in and out of the general education environment. Also, to have a working professional relationship with parents to accurately reports academic and behavior goals for individual students. This individual will report to their direct principal and others on the SPED leadership team. Certified Special Education should have experience differentiating instruction for a variety of learners and will work collaboratively with a team to plan and support instruction in accordance with students' IEP goals.POSITION QUALIFICATIONSEducation
  • Master's degree in Special Education
Experience
  • Three or more years of previous teaching experience
Other Requirements
  • Must possess or the ability to process a valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card by the time of hire.
  • Must possess or have the ability to a valid Arizona Teaching Certificate by the time of hire.
Preferred Requirements
  • 4years of teaching experience
  • Must possess or have the ability to possess a valid Arizona Special Education Teaching Certificate.
ESSENTIAL JOB TASKS
  • Work with teaching staff and ensure the compliance of individual education plans.
  • Present a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school and demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methods in the individual, group, and online setting.
  • Communicate with students to encourage course completion and success.
  • Encourage and track student attendance.
  • Manage academic and behavioral needs of students.
  • Provide student tutoring in area(s) of certification.
  • Work well within teams.
  • Attend Individualized Education Plan Meetings-attends and participates in staff development programs, faculty events and meetings, and serves on staff committees as required (teacher in-service days).
  • Additional tasks as assigned by supervisors.
  • Utilize student information database (PowerSchool) and learning management system and IEP
  • Directs, monitors, and mentors paraprofessionals working with students who have disabilities or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • Performs a variety of assessments and observations to determine the areas in which the student may need extra or modified educational services. Assessment areas may include academic performance, behavior, social development, or physical health.
  • Develops and teaches lessons that provide engaging learning opportunities for small groups and individual students while meeting the required specifications of IEPs and 504 plans.
Working ConditionsWork primarily occurs in a classroom setting. Considerable repetitive computer functions. Constant interruptions in a high-volume work environment. Work is performed with time pressures and requires handling multiple tasks, frequently changing tasks and interruptions. Extensive public contact via telephone, email and in person. Work requires the ability to remain in a sitting position for 50% of the time, 25% walking and 25% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
