Job Description: As a collaborative member of the Special Education team and in accordance with the policies and procedures of Triton Regional Schools, the Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant provides direct service to identified students in their classrooms and in a small group or individual settings outside of the classroom. The Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant (SLPA) delivers a variety of targeted intervention and instruction designed to develop receptive and expressive language skills, improve oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and facilitate the use of assistive technology devices for communication. The SLPA develops IEP goals, objectives, and language-based accommodations and shares information with families during IEP meetings. The SLPA works as part of the Special Education team and works under the direction of an SLP. This specialist is responsible for maintaining required documentation to track services. Role Responsibilities: Provide direct and consultation services, including response to intervention, addressing treatment goals developed by the supervising SLP, under the supervision of a Speech and Language Pathologist Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and treatment plans that address speech, language and communication skill development as developed by the supervising SLP Follow and maintain a consistent schedule that supports the implementation of students' IEPs and/or documented treatment plans Create and maintain therapy materials such as visual boards, word walls, communication boards, and/or equipment for use in therapy activities Adapt or modify instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs and abilities Work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary educational team and general education classroom teachers Model accommodations Consult with families to facilitate skill carry-over in the home Complete required paperwork and job-related functions in a timely manner and in compliance with special education regulations and district policies Utilize a variety of job-related assistive technology Routinely attend district and SLP/A job-alike meetings, school-wide meetings, trainings, and professional development Other duties as assigned by the Special Education Administrator and the Assistant or Executive Director of Special Education. The Speech and Language Pathologist Assistant is considered a district-wide staff member and assignments are made on a yearly basis, depending upon the current caseload. The Speech and Language Pathology Assistant works under the supervision of a Speech and Language Pathologist.
