Job Summary
Responsible for testing and evaluation procedures on patients to assess disabilities, injuries and diseases as related to speech and/or swallowing disorders as prescribed by a licensed physician. Administers a variety of therapeutic techniques as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore functional independence and improve quality of life. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of function, while learning to live with the limits of their capabilities. The staff therapist coordinates delegates and supervises responsibilities assigned to supportive staff (CNA, etc). The Speech therapist participates in operational aspects of the department, maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Ensures that patient charges are accurate and are entered on a timely basis. Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training and preventative maintenance, organizational safety and fire safety programs.
Supervises Speech Language Pathologists Clinical Fellowship Year and Speech Pathology interns, assists in the development of services to patients of all ages, promotes the Speech Therapy Department in the hospital and community, and maintains interdepartmental and intradepartmental communication.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER:
Education: Graduate from an accredited Master in Speech Language Pathology ; approved through the board of Speech Pathologist Therapy Agency for Healthcare Administration and State of Florida
Experience: One year experience in adult Acute Care preferred
Experience in Video Fluoroscopy Swallowing Evaluation
Experience in Advance Dysphagia & Vital stim Electrical Stimulation
Experience in Tracheotomy/Ventilator dependent patients
Ability to communicate effectively in English.
Bilingual preferred.
Strong written and verbal skills.
Software/Hardware: Computer knowledge/ Electronic Medical Record Documentation
License/Certification: Current Florida license as a Speech Language Pathologist
Other: American Speech Language - Hearing Association (ASHA) Certification
Current FL Licensed Speech language Pathologist
