- Position Summary
- Speech Language Pathologists are responsible for assessing diagnosing and treating speech, language, social, communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders in children to adults.
- Education and Experience Requirements
- EDUCATION:
- Required:
- Completion of an accredited speech therapist educational program
- Preferred:
- LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
- Required:
- Active license to practice speech therapy in the state of Iowa
- BLS
- Preferred:
- TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Required:
- None required if education and licensure are met

- Essential Job Functions
- Obtain information from physicians, providers and patients needed to develop plans of care for inpatient and outpatient populations.
- Conduct and make recommendations utilizing video swallow fluoroscopies with radiologist and radiology department.
- Utilize electronic medical record to document care plans, daily notes, updated care plans as outlined in policies and procedures of the rehabilitation department.
- Supervise speech therapy assistants, technicians, and other rehabilitation services support staff.
- Participate in staff conferences, in-services and educational programs.
- May effectively work with a variety of age groups from pediatrics to geriatrics.
- Maintain licensure through approved continuing education hours as required by the state of Iowa.
- Maintains familiarity with various types of medical insurance and obtain pre-authorizations or re-authorization as required by patients' health care insurers or managed care providers.
- Perform other related duties as required from rehabilitation director.
