Description Under the guidance of the Youth and Family Director, the Sports Coordinator will oversee specific sports for 3-7 year olds offered by the YMCA. Currently the YMCA offers soccer, t-ball and basketball. This position requires Saturday mornings throughout the season. Youth Sports is an 8 week program operating January- February, March- April, May-June, and September- October. This is a part time job. The coordinator will be off during off seasons . Must have knowledge of sports. The coordinator will be required to supervise, schedule, recruit/train volunteers and motivate your team of coaches each Saturday, therefore, high energy and organizational skills are a must. The coordinator will also be responsible for setting up the teams, and sending out parent and coach emails. Essential Functions:
- Welcomes all participants with a smile each week.
- On the field for each sport.
- Explains and demonstrates the drills and skills of the week to all sports volunteers.
- Observe volunteers during drills and games while executing the same with your team.
- Explains basic fundamentals of the sport to all volunteers.
- Must be willing to move back and forth, displaying a high energy, encouraging atmosphere, during entire shift (3-4 hours)
- Notify the supervisor of any damaged equipment or shortages.
- Wear appropriate activity attire and footwear. Shirt provided by the YMCA
- Schedule all volunteers for weeks and times they will be working/playing.
- Sports Coordinator will be responsible for coaching a team as well as supervising, if needed.
- Execute Branch emergency action plan as necessary.
- Organize and maintain all equipment.
- Order equipment as needed.
- Order tshirts, and trophies for each sport. Set up photography days.
- Create certificates for the end of each season for the children.
- Carry out the countdown responsibilities for each sport (given at time of hire)
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Environment/ Physical and Mental Demands:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with competitive parents in a professional manner while executing planned drills and games each week.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Required to stay moving regularly during a 3 to 4 hour shift.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 45 pounds.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED. Experience with sports is necessary.
