Job Description:
Title: Sports, Fitness and Recreation Specialist (Impact Specialist) Work Schedule: Full-time, non-exempt. Generally scheduled up to 40hrs/week, 9:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday during Regular Program; and 8:00am-5:00pm during Intersession Program. Occasional late evenings and weekend responsibilities for staff training and special events (e.g., Family Nights, Teen Nights, Sports Leagues, etc.) Reports to: Unit Director - Seaside ClubhouseMISSION: Our Mission is to inspire and empower the youth of Monterey County to realize their full potential to become responsible, healthy, productive and successful citizens. PRIMARY FUNCTION:Under the direction of the Seaside Clubhouse Impact Director, the Impact Specialist for Sports, Fitness and Recreation drives youth success through outstanding, Mission-driven and integrity-centered leadership and management. S/he accomplishes this by cultivating and managing a high performing team who delivers an engaging, age-appropriate and outcome-driven program. This includes ensuring a safe, positive, fun and impactful Clubhouse environment that engages hundreds of diverse youth, ages 6 to 18 years old, to ultimately achieve on-time grade progression, high school graduation, college/postsecondary readiness and education leading to a livable wage career, healthy lifestyle and engaged citizenship.Key Roles/Responsibilities 1. Youth Success
  • Fosters an environment where youth acquire a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness, power and influence, and are engaged in developmentally appropriate, high yield learning activities in Sports, Fitness, Recreation, Education, Character & Leadership Development; and Health & Life Skills.
  • Address youth behavior with a positive discipline approach that is fair, firm, consistent and kind; helping youth take responsibility/accountability for their actions accompanied with appropriate consequences.
  • Ensure a culture of high expectations and frequent recognition of youth for their efforts, achievements.
  • Serve as a role model and advocate for youth.
  • Implement physical education programs, teaching methods to youth and staff.
  • Guide youth in finding the balance between cooperation and competition.
  • Design a variety of activities for youth of all ages.
  • Organize and supervise youth in a safe environment.
  • Ensure youth achievements are acknowledged regularly and a recognition system is in place in the Gym and Activity Center.
  • Provide an environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of youth.
  • Demonstrate skills being taught; assist students in performing skills.
  • Teach safety rules related to each activity.
  • Assess fitness levels; perform fitness challenges.
2. Talent Management
  • Hires, leads and manages a team of 1 to 10 Youth Development Professionals and Volunteers.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings; plans and facilitates training and promotes professional development.
  • Ensure a productive work environment by assisting staff and volunteers.
3. Impact Management
  • Monitors progress and takes action accordingly, emphasis on youth reach (e.g., outreach, recruitment, retention, average daily attendance, program participation, etc.) and impact.
  • Utilizes impact management tools, including monitoring specific youth success indicators such as school attendance, behavior, grades, etc.
  • Successful experience managing grant funded projects, ability to analyze information, author reports, present findings, make recommendations and take action.
  • Contributes to strategic planning and directly leads implementation with clarity of goals, roles/responsibilities, processes and charisma in ensuring effective, accountable working relationships to achieve results.
4. Interdepartmental Collaboration Collaborates with other departments to achieve organizational goals for example:
  • Partners with HR to recruit, orient, train and manage performance of Staff and Volunteers.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to promote positive results achieved; increasing awareness of and investment in BGCMC.
  • Assists Development with stewarding investors, provides written reports and public speaking regarding youth services and results.
  • Contributes to special event planning and execution; provides oversight of Catch the Bus Program in coordination with Operations.
  • Identify any safety, transportation, maintenance, technology, and facility rental issues to Operations.
5. Community Relations
  • Maintains positive, collaborative working relationships with schools, businesses, other youth service organizations, clergy, law enforcement, community leaders and other stakeholders to achieve goals.
6. Management of Facility & Financial Resources
  • Ensures safety and order in all aspects of Clubhouse operations (including field trips and youth services delivered at non-BGCMC locations) as well as compliance to policy and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain inventory, ensure equipment/supplies are in good working order and stewarded for intended use.
  • Manage and assist with budgeting and recommend requisitions to the supervisor.
7. Collateral Duties
  • Performs other duties as assigned in alignment with fulfilling primary function of position.
RequirementsQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Education & Experience:•Two year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience.•Minimum of two years management experience, with demonstrated success at leading teams.•Minimum of three years experience supporting youth to succeed with youth ages 6-18 years old.POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Experience and knowledge of physical education programs, curriculum design and presentation.
  • Understanding and convey differences in ability and differences in learning styles.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to youth, parents, and staff members.
  • Efficient and effective planning and problem solving skills.
  • Supportive, flexible disposition
  • Accepts responsibility as a role model/mentor for youth and Mandated Reporter.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, Google Work Space and Internet for maximum productivity
  • Clean and clear driving record and current CA driver's license
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position including sitting or standing at least 50% of the time
  • Must be able to lift up to 35lbs
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Educational background in Health and Physical Fitness
  • Experience as a youth development professional in the Boys & Girls Club Movement
  • Cultural competence, ability to work with a diverse youth and people
  • First Aid & CPR Certification
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
COMPENSATION: Salary range begins at $23.00 to $24.16 per hour. Paid benefits package including paid vacation, paid sick leave, plus paid California Healthy Workplace Healthy Family sick leave, medical, vision, dental, life and disability insurance, pension and 403(b) plan investment options. Professional development opportunities are available contingent upon funding and approval.
