Waldorf University, located in Forest City Iowa, has an immediate full-time opening for the position of
Sports Information Director. This position reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance & Strategic Communication and is a member of the Athletic Department.The Sports Information Director (SID) develops and implements a comprehensive public relations program to help the university achieve the goals established for Intercollegiate Athletics and is the primary liaison for all electronic, broadcast and print media outlets. The SID prepares press releases to promote all facets of athletics (e.g. game results, new hires, events, etc.). Public relations advice and counsel are provided to the Athletics Director, other athletics administrators, coaches, and student-athletes as an integral part of this position. Publications to support all sports programs (e.g. programs, newsletters, etc.) are developed by working closely with the university marketing department. Maintaining statistical data, records, and history on current and past university student-athletes and teams are also primary components of the SID role.This is a full-time 10mo position falling between August and May annually, with limited as needed summer responsibilities to respond to media related needs of the department. Athletics department staff are expected to attend the annual golf fund raising event in June and the one summer orientation (W.O.A.R.) date as scheduled by Admissions. Position requires flexibility in schedule to accommodate contest and event/media schedules which will include some evenings and weekends, meeting and scheduled office hours.
Ideal candidate will have the following: - A bachelor's degree with an emphasis in English, Communications, Journalism, or Public Relations, preferred.
- Public relations skills, time and project management skills, excellent written communication skills, and effective oral and interpersonal skills, and strong attention to detail.
- Three (3) years' experience in the field of sports media, preferred.
- Experience with the media, computers, the web and new media and statistical software. Waldorf currently uses Presto Sports.
- Proven experience in working independently and as a team member. Demonstrated ability to communicate and perform duties in a professional manner with a sense of urgency.
- Driver's License and clean driving background required.
- Appreciation for urgency and willingness to be flexible with schedule required.
- Photography and/or photoshop skills a plus.
