Location: Waltham & Norwood
The Sports Mental Skills Specialist will work at The Micheli Center for Sports Injury Prevention within the Division of Sports Medicine at Boston Childrens Hospital. The Micheli Center for Sports Injury Prevention seeks to advance the field of sports medicine by revealing current injury patterns and risk factors while developing new methods, strategies, and technologies for preventing injuries. Both the Waltham and Norwood locations provide comprehensive evaluations and exercise prescription plans as well as private, group strength training, and mental skills sessions.
The Sports Mental Skills Specialist is responsible for the following:
+ Providing effective mental skills sessions, monitoring and documenting client progress in building mental resiliency in sport.
+ Working with all ages of the population, from children and up through adult.
+ Conduct 1-on-1 sessions with athletes of all ages and sports to improve confidence, set effective goals, and productively navigate challenges related to sport.
+ Develop and provide workshops that engage athletes in exercises to teach mental skills and optimize athletic performance.
+ Provide education and communication to other members of the athletes team when appropriate (i.e. coaches, psychologists, nutritionists, athletic trainers, strength and conditioning specialists).
+ Assist with administrative tasks as needed.
The Sports Mental Skills Specialist must have the following:
+ Thorough understanding of sport and performance psychology and is able to convey this information to clients.
+ Skillful in engaging and motivating children and young adults.
+ Ability to be a community leader and interact with other leaders in the industry.
+ Must be detail oriented and well organized.
+ Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed or assigned.
+ Bachelor's Degree in related area: Sport psychology, performance psychology, athletic counseling or related field
+ 1 year of experience in sport mental skills coaching. Prior experience working with the child to young adult population.
