Position: Spring Intern, America250 - Ohio Commission

Type: Unpaid Internship

Schedule: Part-time, unpaid ten-week position starting on Monday, January 13, 2025 and ending on Friday, March 21, 2025

Location: Huntington Center Building 41 S High St., Ste 250 Columbus, OH 43215

Reports to: Chris Hurtubise, Communications Director

About Ohio History Connection:

The Ohio History Connection, formerly the Ohio Historical Society, is a statewide history organization with the mission to spark discovery of Ohio's stories. Chartered in 1885, the OHC carries out history services for Ohio and its citizens focused on preserving and sharing the state's history. This includes housing the state historic preservation office, the official state archives, local history office and managing more than 50 sites and museums across Ohio.

Summary:

The Ohio Commission for the U.S. Semiquincentennial (also referred to as America250-Ohio) was formed through OH. Rev. Code 149.309 and announced on March 1, 2022 on Ohio's Statehood Day by Governor Mike DeWine. America250-Ohio is charged with leading Ohio's celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026.

We are seeking an aspiring marketing and communications professional to play a significant role in our summer 2024 marketing cycle as we roll out programs, activities, and events to generate awareness, interest, and excitement in anticipation of 2026. The America250-Ohio Marketing Intern will contribute fresh ideas, create content, research industry trends, and contribute to our social media and digital marketing strategies.

Essential Functions:

  • Support team to help plan, promote and execute major marketing initiatives such as AM250-OH's Tales & Trails Project.
  • Contribute fresh ideas to enhance AM250-OH's engagement with audiences.
  • Support AM250-OH social media channels, to include researching topics and creating content, graphics, videos etc. for posts across platforms.
  • Ability to travel to in-state locations to capture video, photos for social media and other digital marketing channels.
  • Contribute content to AM250-OH digital marketing channels and manage publishing of content. This includes researching topics and writing articles for AM250-OH blog.
  • Write and proofread copy for monthly eNewsletter, print collateral, presentations, reports, etc.
  • Provide support for virtual and in-person events.
  • Help Communications Director craft press releases and respond to media inquiries.
  • General support for AM250-OH key projects and initiatives as needed, to include research, writing, presentation assistance, etc.

Required Education, Skills, Experience:

  • Must be enrolled in an academic program OR a recent graduate from an academic program (within one year)
  • Majors in Marketing, Communications, English, Journalism, History, or related field.
  • Writing and editing.
  • Experience with social media platforms.
  • Experience with content creation.
  • Graphic design skills are a plus, not required.

Required Competencies:

  • Works well both independently and with and in support of colleagues to complete work.
  • Demonstrates a potential to communicate well in written and verbal communications, including informal mediums like email and meetings.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor with the ability to interface with the public.
  • Basic knowledge of marketing principles and industry trends.
  • Video editing.
