This position is responsible for driving and executing Northwestern Mutual's field diversity & inclusion strategy with a particular focus on advancing women in Northwestern Mutual's field. This position plays a lead role on the Field D&I team and will work across the Field Talent division and Field Function performing various work as is expected for a senior leader.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and execute field diversity and inclusion strategy, including maturing existing practices and developing new practices and programs that continue to position the company as a leader, both internally and externally.
- Develop and implement strategy to grow women's segment of the field by contributing expertise to field talent systems, insights and experiences. Includes delivering annual thought leadership on challenges, opportunities and recommendation action to advance women in Northwestern Mutual's field system, along with other diversity & inclusion priorities.
- Regularly prioritize time to deepen expertise, includes annual review of D&I Champion Award Themes, Culture Survey, and D&I Fact Finder. Maintain awareness of diversity inclusion trends/developments in the marketplace to effectively evaluate best ways to achieve goals.
- Establish performance measures and goals and track diversity growth (representation, experience and performance). Includes analyzing data and regularly reviewing KPI's to highlight areas of risk and opportunity on an ongoing basis to senior leadership.
- Partner closely and successfully with key stakeholders across the company, especially Field Talent, Performance team, HR, Communications & Marketing to ensure the viability and long-term success of all programs.
- Build strong relationships with field members and keep the pulse on sentiment, obstacles and opportunities.
- Provide coaching and consulting for relevant issues and projects, home office partners and key field multipliers.
- Work across the organization to create and align plans, monitor/report progress, and adjust course as needed to drive results.
- Design and support delivery of Field D&I solutions, including programs, consulting, projects, priority initiatives and other efforts.
- Collaborate with Field D&I team to continuously refine and evolve D&I strategy, tools and shared perspective
- May include both direct and indirect people leader responsibilities, leading cross functional or departmental working groups and field committees or councils.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Significant previous experience leading diversity and inclusion strategies and programs, including demonstrated ability to build and drive strategic frameworks.
- Ability to build and develop practical, systemic D&I strategies and execution plans in a variety of business environments and drive accountability for results.
- Must be a senior leader who understands that D&I is both strategic and tactical and is ready to do the various types of work required to drive results with people at all levels across the organization.
- Proven track record of leadership and the ability to effectively influence outcomes in a diplomatic and motivational manner.
- Demonstrated results driving cultural change in an organization.
- Experience coaching senior leadership in large organizations.
- Excellent ability to identify and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders representing a broad range of functions and levels in order to advance strategic objectives.
- Demonstrated results in organization assessment, strategic planning, development and systematic implementation of diversity initiatives that have positively impacted organizations.
- Strong problem solving, conceptual and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to analyze data and provide metrics tied to specific business outcomes.
- Strong executive presence, influencing, public speaking, facilitating, listening, and relationship management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets to accomplish business objectives.
Compensation Range:
Pay Range - Start: $133,140.00
Pay Range - End: $247,260.00
Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
