Supervise and oversee various functions of the Fiscal Services department, including patient financial services, the central billing office, patient access, accounting, accounts payable, and payroll.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Adhere to and establish Fiscal Services department goals and objectives consistent with the Hospital's strategic and operating plans, including the annual operating plan (AOP).
  • Review the monthly financial statements for the Hospital and its affiliates.
  • Review the annual financial statements and related footnotes.
  • Ensure compliance with quarterly debt compliance reporting.
  • Continually improve and implement internal controls via policies and procedures.
  • Review complex accounting reconciliations.
  • Formulate new financial strategies and identify cost-cutting opportunities.
  • Review departmental budget-to-actual revenue and expense performance.
  • Plan and delegate work assignments, train, supervise, and evaluate staff.
  • Coordinate and prepare for year-end audits and periodic external audit reviews.
  • Ensure staff are maintaining records and preparing reports in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Supervise the preparation of all non-payroll tax returns for the Hospital and its affiliates, including form 990s and form 1120s.
  • Supervise the preparation of all payroll-related federal and state tax returns for the Hospital and its affiliates.
  • Supervise the accounts payable and cash disbursements process to ensure that payments are being made in a timely fashion.
  • Review weekly and biweekly payroll processes.
  • Coordinate the renewal of all annual insurance policies for the Hospital and affiliates.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal reporting requirements in the areas of financial statements, taxes, property, and corporate annual returns.
  • Perform periodic audits of accounting, payroll and accounts payable.
  • Document and update fiscal policies, procedures and narratives on a timely basis.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budgets for all of the Hospital's affiliated entities.
  • Research and implement the latest best practices for Accounts Payable and Payroll processes.
  • Participate in all relevant financial and compliance committees.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by the CFO or Executive Vice President of Fiscal Services.
Education And Related Experience
  • Required:
  • A Bachelor's degree (B.A., B.S.) or higher with concentration in Accounting.
  • 10 years' experience in healthcare accounting.
  • Advanced Microsoft Word & Excel skills.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be extremely well organized to handle dozens of tasks simultaneously under consistently tight deadlines.
  • Preferred:
  • CPA licensure.
  • MBA or other relevant master's degree.
  • Previous auditing experience, preferably at the Audit Manager level or higher.
  • HFMA current and actively participating member.
