Posting DetailsPosition Information Functional Title Sr. Electrician Recruitment Category Type Standard Functional Category General Services Grade UH.18 FLSA Status Non-Exempt Requisition Number 25-0116 Number of Vacancies 1 Job Level Staff Job Code N/A Job Description SummaryOrganization Name Facility Services Reports to Section Manager, Building Maintenance Full or Part Time Full Time If Part Time how many hours per weekRegular or Temporary Regular Position End Date (if temporary)Work Schedule 7:00 am- 3:30 pmPosition Location HyattsvillePosition Summary Information General Summary The Sr. Electrician performs electrical work in installation, modification, repair, troubleshooting, loading, and testing of new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment.Essential Functions Performs skilled and hazardous electrical work using hand and power tools, as well as other types of equipment associated with the electrical trade Plans, coordinates, oversees, and participates in the work of maintenance staff and contractors, exercising independent judgment within established guidelines Coordinates the work of subordinate maintenance mechanics and contractors Prepares estimates of materials, time, and labor necessary to complete jobs Maintains records of work completed Installs, modifies, repairs, loads, and tests systems, circuits, and devices Troubleshoots and maintains emergency and stand-by systems, generators, uninterruptible power supply systems, and fire alarms Determines, arranges, places, and routes distribution panels, boxes, circuits, fittings, connections, and controls Determines and installs wiring, conduit, fixtures, transformers, and other electrical devices in the size, type and arrangement required for proper and safe operation of electrical systems, circuits, and equipment Performs demolition work associated with either the installation, modification, repair, or removal of electrical systems, equipment and related components Conducts routine operational checks and preventive maintenance tasks, noting and correcting malfunctions Recommends replacement of obsolete systems/equipment Analyzes problems with and repairs various types of electrical and mechanical systems such as pumps, compressors, conveyors, screens, fans, and lighting Replaces and repairs electrical parts, as necessary Provides appropriate drawings of WSSC Water electrical systems Services generators and associated automatic starting equipment Installs complex control systems and a wide variety of electrical equipment Provides test and start-up services for new facilities and new control systems and drawings of electrical systems Completes required administrative paperwork and recordkeeping, utilizes WSSC Water's work order applications to create service requests, enter work information, close out work orders and service requests, etc. Drives a vehicle to conduct WSSC Water businessOther Functions Performs related duties as assignedWork Environment And Physical Demands Industrial settingRequired Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Considerable knowledge of the makeup, operation, and installation of various electrical systems, circuits, equipment, and controls common to facilities and structures Considerable knowledge of various gauges, sizes and types of wire, conduit, couplings, fittings, relays, boxes, circuit breakers, and other electrical devices; the ability to arrange and install them to ensure proper and safe operation of systems, circuits, and equipment Considerable knowledge of the National Electrical Code and revisions and the local building and fire codes related to the work performed within the electrician trade Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions in the electrician trade Skill in the use of hand tools and test equipment such as wire cutters and strippers, drills, soldering irons, screwdrivers, test meters, test lamps, voltmeters, ammeters, watt meters, and ohmmeters Ability to rig and handle all materials necessary to accomplish a job assignment Ability to work standby or to respond to after-hours emergency service calls Ability to work overhead or in stretched, cramped, and awkward or tiring and uncomfortable positions Ability to wear and use personal protective clothing and equipment for protection from shock hazards when exposed to energized equipment or when exposed to dust, fumes, and other irritants to eyes, nose, ears, and respiratory system Ability to conduct failure analysis and to modify systems and equipment Ability to work from electrical drawings, schematics, specifications, sketches, and work orders and prepare material lists and specifications Ability to prepare and maintain records Ability to deal tactfully, effectively, and equitably with people Ability to work from drawings, schematics, and specifications Ability to understand and effectively carry out verbal and written instructionsMinimum Education, Experience Requirements
- High School diploma (or equivalent)
- 3+ years experience as a journey electrician
- Possession of a journey-level electrician license
Additional Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver's license with no more than 4 points and the ability to obtain and maintain a WSSC Water driver's permit within 90 days of hire or transfer
- Employees in this position are designated or considered emergency personnel; therefore, the employee must report to work as scheduled or as directed by their supervisor when WSSC Water declares an event that requires emergency personnel to report to work
- On-call, standby duty, and mandatory overtime work may be required
