Job Description: Senior Estimator – Structural Steel

Position Overview
Our Client is seeking a Senior Estimator specializing in structural steel for their office in New Rochelle, NY. This role involves providing quantity takeoffs and pricing for structural components related to heavy highway, civil infrastructure, and vertical construction projects. The Senior Estimator will work closely with the Vice President of Estimating and will play a critical role in the preconstruction process.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct initial analyses of drawings and specifications to verify the presence of required documentation and define the scope of work.
- Develop comprehensive estimates based on various construction methods, including Bid-Build, Design-Build, Progressive Design-Build, and CM/GC.
- Critically analyze bid documents to identify risks and opportunities, articulating these insights to management.
- Participate in the preparation and writing of technical proposals for Alternative Delivery projects.
- Provide detailed quantity takeoffs and develop crew and production cost estimates.
- Solicit and analyze pricing input from subcontractors and vendors as necessary.
- Attend project site pre-bid meetings, site tours, and pre/post-bid interviews as required.
- Manage and maintain the subcontractor database and oversee subcontractor prequalification processes.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, design teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups, aligning with the company's core values and exceeding customer expectations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or Engineering, with 15+ years of preconstruction/estimating and/or operations experience on commercial construction projects.
- In-depth knowledge of civil/site construction, foundation and structural systems, heavy civil, highway, rail, and transit structures, along with an understanding of associated costs.
- Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in estimating software such as OnScreen Takeoff, spreadsheets, bid management tools, online plan rooms, and database applications, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Bluebeam, AutoCAD 3D, and HCSS Heavy Bid.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Resourceful and diligent in problem-solving, with the ability to adapt to new situations.
Salary Range
The expected salary for this position is between $150,000 and $180,000, depending on experience.
