Job Description:
Summary: The Senior Feed Merchandiser is responsible for all marketing and operations surrounding the feed ingredient coproducts at a Green Plains biorefinery, including Dried, Modified, and Wet Distillers Grains and Corn Fermented Protein. Key responsibilities include managing and executing marketing strategies for feed merchandising and overseeing day-to-day logistics. Additionally, this role involves collaborating with leadership to build and strengthen customer relationships. Responsibilities:
  • Work with management to maximize plant profitability by implementing effective risk management strategies and tools with respect to origination, marketing, sales, and transportation
  • Oversee the successful merchandising of various feed ingredient coproducts at a biorefinery
  • Manage positions, inventories, and forward positions to minimize risk and maximize profitability
  • Analyze markets, identify market trends, and optimize positions to maximize profitability
  • Manage day to day operations of the Feed Ingredient Trading for assigned biorefineries including but not limited to coordinating front office activities, business development, acquisitions and strategy development.
  • Assist with market information, timing of purchases, coordination of trading between offices and corporate merchandising/trading team
  • Partner with leadership to comprehend feed coproduct qualifications and specifications in accordance with USDA and state/national standards, tailored to market zone requirements.
  • Maintain continuous knowledge of feed ingredient economics and effectively communicate this information to the Ingredient Merchandising team, Central Plant purchasers, and customers/clients.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or formal training in agricultural commodity trading/position management
  • 5+ years of related experience preferred
  • Physical agricultural products trading, transportation/shipping and arbitrage experience are preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Possess an understanding of the Chicago Board of Trade to effectively collaborate with leadership on price movements, trends, USDA reports, and future projections.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook and the ability and willingness to learn new software applications
  • Possess excellent organizational and communication skills, the ability to multi-task, and the capability to work effectively in diverse teams.
  • Outstanding negotiation, analytical, and business skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workloads effectively.
  • Ability to work independently, self-motivated, with a high sense of urgency.
