Responsibilities

This position is responsible for daily Grounds keeping related operational tasks at the Horticulture Resource Center. Acts as Team Lead in the absence of the Horticulture Resource Center Manager.

* Waters plants in the greenhouses, unloads and groups plants together as appropriate, locates and groups plants together according to their growing requirements, weeds plant pots and greenhouse floors, fertilizes plants with liquid and granular feed, re-pots plants and determines appropriate soil, checks for signs of insects on plants, cleans greenhouse sumps and pumps, ensures irrigations clocks and well pumps are working properly, and inspects buildings for repairs. Ensures equipment is in working order and coordinates repairs and maintenance as necessary

* Responsible for nursery operations and plant maintenance including delivery and pick up from special events. Responsible for opening and closing procedures at the Center. In the absence of the supervisor, acts as the supervisor, approving time and leave, entering daily time, approving daily and biweekly time sheets, and giving day-to-day instruction including teaching new employees about tools, techniques, and operating procedures

* Operates front-end loader and tractor with associated implements. Operates University vehicle during plant deliveries and projects on campus. Cleans up refuse and distributes as compost or garbage. Organizes and coordinates with co-workers on recycling pots. Responsible for other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

* Completion of 9th Grade

* A valid Florida or Georgia Driver's License or the ability to obtain prior to hire
