In this context, Spellman High Voltage Electronics Corp. is seeking a highly talented, motivated, creative, and experienced Sr. Engineer in the field of Power Electronics, Power Management technologies and applications, to include development, testing and validation. This position allows the candidate to advance the power electronics technology roadmap that both supports the existing company product line and enables expansion for the next-generation products. The successful candidate must be able to work independently on new power electronics concepts (advanced development) which can be demonstrated to be mass produced while also supporting ongoing customer product development activities as needed. She/He must have knowledge in power electronics design and simulation and the ability to design and develop products from high-level requirements. Professional experience in high voltage power supply design environments for highly regulated markets and applications is a definite plus. In this role, some people management / soft skills, coaching and mentoring, are also key requirements to be successful in this role. What You Will Do:
  • Product architecture design development to enable robust solutions from high level requirements.
  • Detailed circuit design and analysis to enable reliability and producibility.
  • Interface with peers in the Engineering team to implement features desired as described in product/application needs.
  • Support the review and interpretation of internal/external customer requirements.
  • Responsibilities range from designing, and developing power conversion and control circuits, component selection, bread-boarding, testing, troubleshooting, problem solving, system integration and reporting results.
Knowledge/Skill Requirements:
  • Background in Power Electronics topologies, High Voltage Multipliers and applications using the latest / new power Semi devices and HV devices. Understanding of semiconductor non-idealities, losses, and loss modelling.
  • High level understanding of circuit simulation/analysis, testing and debugging.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate, design and develop power electronics hardware in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong command of fundamental concepts such as thermal dynamics, controls, power conversion topologies, noise immunity and EMC.
  • Provide detailed written design theory and design documentation.
  • Verbal and technical language proficiency in English.
  • Provide detailed cost analysis versus performance gains.
  • Prepare detailed design verification reports, MTBF, DFX analysis.
  • Skilled in using laboratory test & measurement equipment.
  • Knowledge of power electronics simulations tools such as (PSPICE, Matlab / Simulink and others).
  • Strong understanding of schematics and PCB layout, high competency in all core fields (power conversion devices and topologies, analog electronic design, HF electromagnetics design and controls hardware.
  • Excellent problem definition and solving techniques as well as good organization and documentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others:
  • Envision the Future and be able to Communicate with sales and potential new customers regarding technical specification development and finalization.
  • Must be self-motivated, show initiative and have a strong desire to succeed.
  • Ability to work independently and lead technical team as and when asked.
Desired Characteristics:
  • 5+ years of relative experience
  • Some experience in HV Multiplier design up to 100kV or higher.
  • Some experience in design of encapsulated in HV power electronics and magnetics components with specific attention to Creepage, clearance HV Arc management in HV apparatus in up to 200 kV is highly desirable but not a must have.
  • Some experience with application HV generators with of X-Ray tubes kV is highly desirable but not a must have.
  • Participate in and contribute to strategic discussions regarding products, markets, and technology/product road-mapping.
  • Review product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements and applicable specifications (industry standards and homologation requirements).
  • Lead and oversee product design reviews and provide applicable approval for design changes and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with all Spellman and other governing security regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering with 7+ Years or (MS preferred) and 5+ years of demonstrated experience in hands-on product and technology development in the power conversion and management (power electronics field). High voltage X-ray power conversion technology experience is very highly desired.
  • Knowledge of power electronics, power conversion, analog circuit design and experience of magnetic design, both low and high voltage is preferred.
  • 5+ years leading an engineering team in a product design/development of AC to DC Solid State Power conversion.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities with a focus on tactical as well as strategic business aspects.
  • Demonstrated ability of mentoring, coaching, motivating, and directing less experienced team members.
  • Commitment to fostering high performance, and an environment of open collaboration and teamwork.
  • Flexible, customer focused orientation with an eye on successful and seamless project execution.
  • Passionate about collaborating with other company teams in a multidisciplinary and multi-functional environment (sales and marketing, operations, quality, supply chain), customer etc. to drive a continuous and strong focus on value creation.
  • Excellent task management skills and knowledge of other engineering design and analysis tools in the field of power conversion, power management, digital and analog control.
Our good faith estimate of the wage range for this role is $111,000 - $155,000. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and other factors. In addition to base pay, we offer a full benefits package.
