A Day in the Life • Represent human factors on a project core team on a more than one project at a time • Plan and conduct task analysis and user research studies for new product/ system/sub-system concepts • Compile, organize and synthesize results of field observations, surveys and usability test results into internal communications and presentations for product teams and leadership • Contribute to workflow and user interface designs • Write usability engineering documents such as task analysis, usability risk analysis, usability requirements, study protocol and test reports in a timely manner • Analyze data to identify root causes of observed use errors • Design, execute and report on usability evaluations and tests at various stages of product development from concept exploration to formal validation testing required by US/OUS regulatory agencies • Prepare and support usability assessment documentation for US/OUS regulatory submissions. • Manage usability engineering activities within projects and provide schedules and status updates to project team Requirements • Bachelor's degree in human Factors, Biomedical Engineering, Industrial Design or a related field with 4+ years of experience; MS or higher with 3+ years of experience in medical device development • Strong understanding of usability standards (IEC 62366, ANSI HE75, FDA Human Factors Guidance) • Excellent oral and written communication skills • Strong analytical and organizational skills • Experience working with devices involving both software and hardware preferred • Experience working through all phases of new product development cycle preferred

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Applies human centered principles, methodologies, and technologies to the design of human-machine systems and products.
  • Develops and implements research methodologies and both qualitative and quantitative analysis plans to test and evaluate new concepts and developmental prototypes used in all phases of products development and processes.
  • Designs and executes tests to simulate product use for the purposes of user need investigation, concept exploration/selection/refinement, requirements development, use-related risk identification and formal usability validation with intended users with design engineers to establish system design, operating, and training requirements and to ensure optimized human-machine interfaces and overall user experience.
  • Identifies and analyzes technological problems or risks, performs theoretical human factors investigations, and develops and implements research and analysis plans to inform the design direction of new product development.

TECHNICAL SPECIALIST CAREER STREAM: An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.

Communication and Influence: Communicates with senior internal and external customers and vendors. Exchange information of facts, statuses, ideas and issues to achieve objective, and influence decision-making.

Leadership and Talent Management: May provide guidance, coaching and training to other employees within job area. May manage projects, requiring delegation of work and review of others' work product.

Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires advanced knowledge of job area combining breadth and depth, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. May have practical knowledge of project management. Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$114,400.00 - $171,600.00 This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP). The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
