The UHealth system at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Manager, Programs in the Public Health Sciences Department. SUMMARY The Senior Manager, Programs oversees the day-to-day administrative management of assigned program(s) within the department and works to ensure the successful implementation of all initiatives. The incumbent operates with the goal of delivering high quality programs to the University faculty and staff and other key stakeholders. Furthermore, the Senior Manager, Programs serves as the liaison to leadership, faculty, students, and staff. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepares, maintains, and reports on program effectiveness. Assists with managing program budget by monitoring expenditures. Stays abreast of market trends and legislation impacting program functions. Checks, verifies, organizes, and prepares grants, procurement, and other program-relevant documents. Supervises, monitors, trains, and evaluates program staff members to ensure compliance with applicable policies and procedures. Coordinates logistics for program events and activities. Works with other departments to increase program awareness. Identifies new needs and emerging issues and develops new programs, initiatives, and resources. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures. - Manages graduate public health career services by assisting all student, alumni, faculty, and employer clients in the development of career education, career identification and search, and pursuit of employment opportunities commensurate with formal academic pursuits.
- Develops and presents comprehensive professional development workshops and implements events to prepare students to find employment, apply to medical school and PhD programs.
- Works collaboratively with the Toppel Career Center, Graduate School, and other University departments to share events and resources with students.
- Connects with local, national, and international organizations and employers (academic, government-based, and community-based) to build partnerships and an infrastructure that will support students' placement and career opportunities.
- Tracks and analyzes student successes, graduate outcomes, and placement statistics to consistently measure the success of DPHS through key metrics.
- Supports recruitment initiatives by meeting with prospective and admitted students and participating in recruitment and admissions events.
- Implements, maintains, and promotes products that will enhance and expand students' professional development opportunities.
- Maintains relationships with alumni and invite them to share their experiences in person and online at various professional development events.
- Keeps current on philosophy, trends, and best practices in career services and incorporates appropriate knowledge. Capstone and Thesis Programs Management
- Holds individual student meetings to discuss public health curriculum requirements, program competencies, professional/academic goals, and program progress.
- Develops an annual advising plan focused on meeting the department needs and in accordance with accreditation requirements.
- Collaborates with faculty advisors and ensures that faculty/student advising operates effectively and meets the curricular and professional goals of each student.
- Manages the capstone and thesis courses and course documents using Blackboard and Filemaker and ensures student progress and competency attainment, per accreditation requirements.
- Manages and tracks students' academic progress and establishes markers for completion of field placement hours and capstone projects.
- Creates and maintains faculty advisor trainings and student handbooks for capstone and thesis programs.
- Engages researchers, community leaders and organizations, educators, service providers, and public advocates to develop strategic capstone program placements.
