The Robotics Manufacturing and Technical Operations (RMTO) organization oversees the manufacturing of high-quality robotics and gets the right materials to the right place at the right time to enable our automated solutions. It's a fast-paced operation that works cross-functionally with teams across Amazon globally and utilizes data and performance indicators.
In this role, you will be developing test strategies and solutions for new products, with a focus on automation, cycle time reduction, and improving product quality. You will work with engineering, production, junior test engineers, and external vendors to deliver the highest quality products with the lowest cost.
We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Manufacturing Test Development Engineer with a proven track record of implementing best-in-class test techniques and processes within a complex manufacturing environment. This role will report to the Technical Operations Manufacturing Test and Controls team and will be a member of the RMTO organization.
Key job responsibilities
- Foster a culture of inclusion
- Develop equipment, software, and processes for acceptance testing of robotic systems and sub-assemblies
- Specify and guide external in-circuit-test (ICT) development with vendors
- Write test procedures, test specifications, and acceptance criteria for new products
- Transfer new test solutions to internal and external manufacturers
- Work with suppliers on deployed products and their respective tests
- Guide the internal manufacturing team by resolving complex manufacturing problems
- Propose design changes that will enhance product manufacturability and testability
- Evaluate and approve product Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
- Provide extensive cross-functional guidance requiring multiple skill sets (such as electrical, mechanical, firmware, software)
- Mentor junior engineers
- Be willing to roll up sleeves and do what needs to be done in a small, specialized, team environment
- Up to 20% travel required, including international travel

Basic Qualifications
- BS in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent required
- 5+ years related work experience in environments that are fast-paced and require multitasking
- Knowledge of test fixture design and state-of-the-art automated test equipment
- Experience designing electrical test interfaces for functionally testing electrical sub-assemblies
- Demonstrated expertise with test strategy development and implementation
- Extensive experience writing code to control equipment and devices-under-test using a high-level programming language
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
- 10+ years experience
- Proficiency in NI TestStand and either LabVIEW or Python
- Experience testing time of flight (TOF) and stereo cameras and other sensor systems
- Experience bringing a product through the New Product Introduction process
- Experience with boundary scan
- Excellent analytical skills, ability to define requirements and capability to deliver test solutions
- Experience in designing or specifying electrical test interfaces for functionally testing electrical sub-assemblies
- Expertise in SMT assembly line processes and associated equipment (pick and place, AOI, 5DX, reflow ovens)
- Bench-top electrical debug tool experience as well as electrical design of test circuitry
- Experience specifying ICT requirements
- Experience testing motors and motor controllers
- Experience debugging circuits to the component level
- Linux-based product OS testing and control
- Experience with OpenAPI and AWS (IOT, S3, ECR)
- Experience with RF testing
