Title: Senior Operations Manager - Chemicals

Location: Greater Houston, TX

Reports To: Site Manager

The Sr Operations Manager manages day-to-day activities of operations at the facility. Using a hands-on approach and management oversight and guidance, this person will oversee production, maintenance, engineering, & EH&S.

  • The Operations Manager needs managerial and engineering skills to ensure that all policies and procedures are followed, resulting in a safe work environment, and producing high quality products. This person will review standard operating procedures to help streamline processes, help promote a better and safer work environment, and ensure a productive workforce.
  • The Operations Manager must have the ability to work successfully with customers and suppliers, as well as interface with commercial, technical and plant staff.
  • In addition he/she will be a leader in process improvement, productivity increases, and personnel development.

Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will be a self-starter with the ability to work in a team environment. Strong leadership, excellent supervisory skills, verbal and written communication, interpersonal savvy, effective team building, planning, ability to effectively prioritize production issues.
  • Education and Experience:
  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering required, advanced degree preferred, and seven to ten years related experience and demonstrable success in an engineering or production management role preferably in a chemical plant environment. Experience in handling TIH/hazardous chemical raw materials a plus. Experience with cGMP production a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • This person considers all aspects of the relationship between production and shipping, including quality, value and the ability to respond quickly to changing supply requirements. The Plant Manager will achieve cost reductions while improving productivity and safety, and helping the company meet its growth objectives.

· Set the culture for and maintain a safe, incident and injury-free workplace;

· Manage and sustain continued, efficient, cost effective manufacturing of all products in quantities, timeliness and within quality specifications expected by the customer base. Develop and adhere to production schedules;

· Ensure that a suitable level of housekeeping is maintained, so as to provide a safe, clean working environment

· Monitor and maintain the ISO procedures in his/her areas of responsibility

· Take positive actions to attain continuous improvement in plant capacity, plant reliability, product capability, and cost reduction

· Lead the plant effort in upgrading systems where improved instrumentation and/or automation will result in beneficial changes (capacity, environmental, financial, quality, and safety)

· Assist all the operating areas with process trouble-shooting and continuous improvements

· Establish and maintain good relationships and communications with senior management, R&D, Commercial, Order Fulfillment and corporate departments of EHS, Human Resources, Regulatory, & Accounting.

· Develop and customize engineering solutions that will improve productivity, reduce cost, and increase safety at the site;

· Establish, develop and implement plant capital and operating budgets. Review performance and ensure adherence to budgetary guidelines, including meeting corporate financial goals for the business unit. Manage and control costs and productivity to maximize profitability;

· Manage the installation, testing, operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment, making sure they are executed by the personnel responsible (including security and protection);

· Develop and apply plant policies consistent with company policies and management expectations, including requirements for health, safety and environmental compliance;

· Organize and manage projects, making detailed plans that work towards the fulfillment of a set objective. In particular, lead projects pertaining to the transfer of new products/processes from lab scale R&D to full scale production;

· Direct, evaluate, and confirm product/process change orders;

· Support PHAs for all new product/process launches at the site;

· Establish and maintain good relationships and communications with Regulatory Agencies;

· Establish and maintain good relationships with contractors, vendors, suppliers and customers;

· Review and recommend capital projects;

· Ensure all plant activities are conducted with Company and Site guidelines;

· Other duties may be assigned.

Tasks:

· Manage the site Safety Program, ensuring 100% participation by all employees;

· Prepare and monitor cost center budget; reporting on budget to Senior Management as necessary;

· Seek out opportunities for improvements and prepare request for capital expenditures;

· Develop long-range goals and objectives;

· Other tasks may be assigned or developed.

Language Skills:

The successful candidate will possess the ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and governmental regulations.

Mathematical Skills and Reasoning Ability:

This position requires the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions, and the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or verbal form and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.
