- The Center's local motorcycle safety training program as a Missouri Motorcycle Safety Program training site sponsor
Supervise/Manage the Center's Highway Safety Instructional Park (HSIP) personnel and facilities:
- Directly supervise non-grant personnel with assignments at the HSIP, including assigned temporary staff members for training programs
- Manage the Marshall building (serve as Building Manager), its 14-acre training facility and fleets of vehicles
Examples of Duties Manage/Administer the Center's Transportation Safety Division: 80%
- Responsible for research, development, fiscal oversight and delivery of safety programs for such groups as law enforcement, business and private industry, the school bus and commercial vehicle industries, the general public and others to include classroom and hands on driver education
- Training in specially prepared vehicles, including distance learning and on-line training programs
- Develop and implement new education and training programs in response to the research, trends and needs
- Hire and supervise training staff (full-time, part-time &/or temporary)
- Administer the Center's Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Program in compliance with Missouri Department of Public Safety requirements
- Complete required reports for compliance with grant authority, Center, University and Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) guidelines
- Budgetary responsibility; set course tuition fees and temporary instructor pay rates
- Monitor new training technology and developments and implement when possible to maintain up-to-date teaching techniques
- Provide program analysis and participate in strategic and long-range planning of future programming
- Continuously monitor programs and evaluations for improvement, including annual staff evaluations
- Assist with the development and implementation of a marketing plan. Manage/Administer the State's Driver Improvement Program (DIP)
- Oversee the statewide program for State regulation compliance, by all providers, through a federal grant with the Office of Highway Safety - MoDOT
- Monitor the grant budget
- Ensure operational compliance with all grant requirements and reporting
- Completion of required paperwork for compliance with grant authority, Center, University guidelines
- Maintain a database of approved providers for the state and periodically audit for compliance
- Respond to requests for approval from new potential providers
- Respond to citizen inquiries, requests from the legal community and the Department of Revenue
- Conduct local DIP training for Johnson County, as needed or requested
- Develop and submit renewal grants each fiscal year
Manage/Administer the Center's Driver Education and Training program:
- Responsible for research, development, teaching and fiscal oversight of all basic and advanceddriver education training programs, including supervision of teaching staff (Temporary Employees), including all standard vehicle, commercial motor vehicle and motorcycle programs
- Manage the Center's academic and professional Driver Education Teacher Preparation programs (including academic DRED 2010, 2020, 2030 and 2040)
- Manage the Center's High School Driver Education program for teenagers
- Oversee preparation of curricula
- Oversee completion of required reports for compliance with grant authority, Center, University and Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Manage/Administer other required programs for the Missouri Safety Center, including but not limited to:
- CDL 3rd party examiner
- School Bus Trainer certification & Recertification
- Probation & Parole Arrest process training
- Other training programs as developed by Senior Director or other designated staff
Typical Qualifications Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Adult Ed, Business, Public Administration, Safety, or related field required. Master's preferred
- Some form of recognized instructor development or training certification
- Experience may be substituted for education. Note that equivalencies are based on the following: AA or 60 credit hours = 2 years experience; BA/BS or 120 credit hours = 4 years experience; MA/MS = 6 years experience; PhD = 8 years experience
Experience:Three (3) years experience in a traffic safety related field to include one or both of the following areas:
- Two (2) years experience teaching adult education &/or training programs
- Two (2) years administrative experience in grant type operations; including specific grant program operations, writing and reporting
- Three (3) years experience in mid-level management type duties, including supervision of both personnel and programs
- Experience designing, developing and implementing instructional programs
- Work experience in resource planning, scheduling and coordinating of personnel and programs
