Job Description Summary:

SIGN-ON BONUS $7500

External applicants may be eligible for a $7500 sign-on bonus with a one-year work commitment. Previously employed candidates who have been gone from the organization longer than 90 days may also be eligible. This bonus will be paid in the first paycheck after hire.

The Senior Polysomnographic Tech is responsible for preparing the patient for sleep disorder testing and collection of data pertinent to the interpretation of the test results. This position encompasses all technical aspects and documentation within a PSG and MSLT, diagnostic and therapeutic services and/or patient care and education.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Sets up and prepares patients for Polysomnogram or Multiple Sleep Latency Test in accordance with American Sleep Disorder Association guidelines. Explains procedures, performs routine and sometimes difficult recordings in lab. Recognizes non-routine and/or critical situations and reports appropriately. Practices safety standards as defined by hospital and department policy. Maintains RPSGT and BLS certifications. Maintains OSHA regulations. Recognizes artifacts, respiratory, cardiac, EEG and sleep abnormalities. Initiates emergency procedures, including cardiac and or respiratory arrest, seizures, and psychological emergencies. Scores polysomnograms.

Calibrates equipment to include: EEG/computer, respiratory, cardiac, penile tumescence and other monitoring systems. Evaluates and calibrates all equipment according to standards. Maintains equipment in good working order. Completes test logging, billing and statistics in timely manner. Answers phone, handles customer concern and schedules tests appropriately. Participates and assists in evaluation of Quality Improvement efforts. Maintains work area in orderly and organized fashion. Uses resources in cost effective way to maintain quality care. Participates in orientation and training of new personnel. Acts as leader of day-to-day operations in absence of Clinical Manager.

Professional Development: Attends continuing education sessions and conferences as required to maintain registration and stay current with technological advances. Attends educational sessions to ensure competency in care of patients of all ages and conditions. Attends staff meetings and departmental and hospital in-services. Participates in hospital-wide committees. Serves as leader on departmental committees. Self-directs to identify learning needs and pursue opportunities which serve to meet needs. Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills with patients, families, physicians and hospital staff.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific Vision abilities required by this job include close Vision, distance Vision, and color Vision. Work environment: The noise level in the Work environment: is usually quiet.
