Sr Research Scientist I, Bioinformatics – Biologics Discovery We are seeking an accomplished Senior Research Scientist 1 (SRS1) with a strong background in AI/ML and a deep understanding of large molecule workflows, particularly in antibody design and molecular property prediction. The successful candidate will lead efforts to develop, deploy, and optimize machine learning models that accelerate and refine the discovery and development of biologics.Main Responsibilities:Participate in cutting-edge development of AI/ML models for drug discovery and scientific applications.Develop and optimize exploratory analysis tools for interpreting multi-dimensional datasets generated during the biologics discovery workflow.Apply and advance artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) approaches, particularly generative AI models, across stages of large molecule workflows, including molecular property predictions, AI-guided candidate selection, and engineering.Work closely with data engineers to manage and preprocess large datasets, ensuring data quality and pipeline scalability.Communicate findings and insights to stakeholders through reports, presentations, and visualizations.Engage actively in the evaluation and coordination of collaborations with academic institutions, startups, and outsourcing partners.Stay updated on the latest advancements in AI/ML and computational biology and apply new techniques to improve existing workflows.Mentor and provide guidance to junior data scientists and research associates.Qualifications:PhD in computational biology, computer science, data science, physical science, statistics, or a related field with a minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience. Industry experience is preferred.Demonstrated track record and expertise in AI/ML method development and applications in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting.Excellent communication skills with extensive biomedical domain knowledge, enabling clear explanation of technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, and collaborate effectively with diverse scientific teams.Proficiency in R, Python, or C/C++ programming languages, with experience in relevant libraries and tools (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, ESM2/3).Deep expertise in one or more relevant fields (e.g., antibody biology, biophysics, biotherapeutic design, machine learning).Preferred Experience and Skills:Experience collaborating with external scientific partners, such as academic institutions or industry research groups.Track record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals or major ML conferences.Experience with IT infrastructure such as database systems, cloud computing (such as Databricks, AWS), and high-performance computing in Linux environments.The salary range for this position is: $165,580.00 - $214,280.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives, paid time off, and a benefits package.
