Job Purpose:

The Sr. Safety Manager is responsible for accident prevention. Oversees and administers the Sea Box safety program across all locations. Assists with management of Workman's Compensation and conducts plant safety training and inspections. Top-priority of this position is to promote an internalized safety culture where workers assume responsibility for their safe behavior and No one gets hurt. The position is the face of Sea Box for external engagement with the insurance industry.

Job Summary:

This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. The ideal candidate possesses a multi-decade working history in:

1. Implementing safety management systems, assessing hazards and controls, determining worksite risks, investigating incidents, maintaining loss and incident records, and preparing emergency response plans

2. Developing and implementing health and safety programs

3. Solving problems and applying safety strategies for organizations

4. Protecting people's safety and health in the workplace and surrounding community

In addition, must be able to demonstrate familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to address groups of people for presentations or training. Strong language skills, both written and verbal. Experience in industrial/manufacturing fields is a must. Self-motivator, able to meet deadlines and able to adapt to change. Ability to work independently and with a team. Strong safety leadership and experience with cultural/behavior change are required.

Duties:

  • Accident prevention correct and/or report any unsafe working conditions before they result in an accident
  • Identify and implement efficiency improvements, cost reductions, and profit improvement initiatives
  • Support the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and the Sea Box Quality Policy calling for self-inspection of your work product
  • Lead and prepare near miss, accident, and incident investigations and analysis to determine causes and preventive measures
  • Follow up on corrective/preventative actions identified in walk-through inspections and accidents/near-miss investigations
  • Responsible for the continued development of Safety Programs
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA & EPA regulations and standards
  • Conduct safety inspections, safety reporting, protocols, and procedures
  • Conduct safety meetings and maintains high awareness and personnel commitment to safety by all members of the team, fostering and actively contributing to the teamwork concept
  • Promotes progress through positive change and continuous improvement
  • Familiarize themselves with all aspects of our production and applications, i.e., our industrial paint system and its components, regulations, etc., and transfer that knowledge to the team
  • Maintain a positive work environment, promote, and support good housekeeping practices and quality
  • Conduct safety training for new hires and semiannual refresher courses
  • Manage required certifications, including fork truck, welding, respirators, LOTO, CPR, bloodborne pathogens, etc.
  • Maintain MSDS file and related hazardous material training
  • Change agent to promote an internalized (self-responsible) safety culture
  • Manage the Right to Know and annual VOC reporting to the EPA
  • Monitor surveillance videos for non-compliance with company policies or irregularities and implement appropriate corrective actions
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:

Skills/Qualifications: Bilingual Spanish is a plus, knowledge fluency of OSHA regulations

Education: Bachelor's degree in safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field

Certification Required (One or the other, both are desired):

Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

Experience: Minimum 15+ years with safety implementation in a manufacturing environment. Environmental compliance experience is a plus. Experience with behavioral-based safety. Proven track record of process improvement and cultural change.
