OverviewPrimary responsibilities are the day-to-day operation of our Machine Shop/Engineering Design Lab, managing independent work, and providing teaching support to the students in classes held in this lab. These classes include MAE 321 and MAE 322. The lab is designed to introduce the technical foundation and basic processes of Mechanical Design, which are appropriate for the design and prototyping of both mechanical systems and components. The emphasis is on designing for the complete product life-cycle. Topics in parametric design and design optimization using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and Manufacturing (CAM) are introduced in the classroom and online and then reinforced by team and individual assignments, including fabricating mechanical components, mechanisms, and systems from raw materials.The successful candidate will work with faculty to create the curriculum for teaching of the skills required by the department. The candidate is also responsible for seeking out new methods and equipment to enhance the lab to meet the needs of the students now and in the future.Other Responsibilities Include:* Make decisions concerning design, tool selection, and student training.* Monitor health and safety in the laboratory and train and oversee students during laboratory* Set work priorities and manage workflow.Responsibilities* Supporting lecture through the lab along with supporting the undergraduate students enrolled in MAE 321 and MAE 322. MAE 321 is a required course for all MAE students.* Support Course and Faculty with:* Teaching of the skills required by the department.* Aid in seeking out new methods and equipment to enhance the lab and meet the students' needs now and in the future.* Decisions concerning design, tool selection, and student training.* Monitor health and safety in the laboratory, and help train and oversee students during laboratory operations.* Maintain and clean equipment in the shop.Other responsibilities include:* Assisting in student independent projects, including senior thesis.* Assist faculty and students with the development of classroom demonstrations.* supporting teaching in the shop by assisting students in designing and developing mechanical projects.* Training in the courses on Equipment Use and Safety. Also, providing support through discussion with students regarding intelligent designing.QualificationsEssential Qualifications:* 3+ years of relevant work experience* Should enjoy working with students, have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to multi-task is a must, and be available to work flexible hours including some evening hours as teaching plans and student enrollments dictate.* Ability to procure, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and maintain electronic and mechanical equipment and devices* Expertise in the use of a variety of machine tools, prototyping equipment, standard hand and power tools, CNC machine, welding, 3D printer, laser cutter* Organized, flexible, ability to exercise sound judgment and prioritize* Education : Bachelor's degree, or equivalent related work experiencePreferred Qualifications:* CAD-CAM software* Ability to interact effectively with various department constituents, including faculty, researchers, visitors and studentsPrinceton University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer ( and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
