The Project Manager is responsible for fully leading the management and development of roadway oriented projects for public agencies and private developments within NJDOT, County, and Local jurisdictions project proposal stage through bidding and construction. The Sr. Project Manager manages and coordinates all aspects of projects, including the management of engineering and permitting staff as necessary to complete projects, coordination with the reviewing agencies, and general management of all staff related to the development and finalization of PS&E plans. Responsibilities may also include independently pursuing new transportation planning and traffic engineering contracts, proposal writing, and business development by leveraging existing relationships within the industry and establishing new contacts.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the Sr. Project Manager in the development of PS&E plans for Transportation Projects including Highway Widening, Intersection Widening, Traffic Signal Improvements, Pedestrian Improvements, and other similar type of assignments for both public agencies and off-site improvements associated with private entities.
- Develop, maintain and execute project objectives, timelines, goals and budgets.
- Direct preparation and review technical reports and documents as needed.
- Direct preparation of Design Exception Reports.
- Conduct detailed and professional project-related communications and meetings with clients to build and maintain the reputation of the firm.
- Supervise and manage engineers and personnel.
- Assist with major project pursuits, new business development, and local client relationships. Identify potential projects and develop strategies to win these projects.
- Build and maintain relationships with local agencies and clients.
- Provide quality control oversight.
- Provide Transportation Design support to other divisions of the company as needed.
- Serve as the technical liaison with clients on project efforts and coordinate technical efforts within the Transportation design discipline.
- Assist in the development of marketing strategies for Transportation design work and related pursuits.
- Prepare written reports and oral presentations.
- Lead and direct sub-consultants as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Coordinate and maintain permitting timelines as needed to meet project deadlines.
- Provide construction support to clients as needed in support of prepared documents.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering.
- 15 + years of experience in traffic/transportation engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration required.
- Valid Drivers license
- In depth knowledge and practical experience with Transportation design standards including NJDOT, AASHTO, MUTCD and ADA/PROWAG.
- Experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D and Corridor
- Client relations/client meeting experience.
- Familiarly with required permits, and ability to coordinate and scope same with other disciplines as necessary.
- Experience with utility research and conflict analysis during design phase.
- Experience with NJDOT design approval process, specifications, and construction requirements, and other aspects as necessary to complete a project from conceptualization through construction for private development and local agency projects.
- General knowledge of other traffic engineering and planning tasks such as Traffic Impact Studies, Traffic Signal and Electrical Plans, Traffic Impact Studies, Alternatives analysis.
- Ability to conceptualize a design and assess cost savings alternatives during project conceptualization.
- General knowledge of stormwater management strategies and ability to coordinate effectively and productively with stormwater management design team.
- Ability to train and manage staff, and coordinate all aspects of the project execution with no oversight.
- Ability and willingness to sign plans and reports associated with the above tasks.
- Motivating and positive personality with ability to train and mentor staff to contribute to the expertise and professional reputation of the firm.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
