Job Purpose/Description
* TRIO Student Support Services is a Department of Education-funded project designed to support students from one or more of the following identities: represent the first generation in their family to pursue a four-year degree, are low-income, and/or have a disability. TRIO SSS is seeking project ambassadors. Ambassadors report to the Director with support from the administrative assistant, assistant director, and access specialist.
Job Duties
* Create a welcoming, student-centered space in the TRIO SSS lounge
* Serve as a steward of the common space-ensure that the space is clean, stocked, and promotes active, informal student engagement
* Serve as a peer mentor and help students develop effective academic skills and practices
* Facilitate connections to campus and community engagement and support resources
* Support cohort-building programming
* Assist professional staff in addressing institutional and cultural barriers and fostering a climate that values the social and cultural capital of TRIO SSS eligible students
* Maintain confidentiality of records, grades, and other protected information
* Maintain accurate student files and submit required documentation in a timely manner
* Attend and actively participate in scheduled training sessions and staff meetings
* Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
* Must be a current CSS student
* Enrolled in the TRIO SSS program
* Registration of a minimum of 6 credit hours per term and evidence of a timely degree completion plan
* Cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Eligible applicants must be in good academic standing and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress in accordance with College policies
* Commitment to establishing and maintaining a helping relationship with students
* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds
* Demonstrated genuine concern for the wellbeing of others
* Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Demonstrated dependability and self-motivation
* Articulation of CSS values and goals of SSS project
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience with mentoring, coaching, and tutoring
* Background that includes overcoming barriers similar to those of participants (first generation, low income family background, and/or identification as a student with a disability)
