Sr Staff Accountant - Hybrid Senior Staff Accountant (Steel Manufacturing Business) Cascade Steel is a leading manufacturer of finished steel products such as rebar, coiled reinforcing bar, and wire rod, servicing primarily West Coast construction markets. The Senior Staff Accountant (SSA) will report to the Accounting Supervisor and plays an important role on our Operations Accounting team. The position will support all aspects of accounting for our steel manufacturing business. This position operates within broad parameters and involves the application of accounting principles to solve complex problems. The SSA works independently while fostering an environment of continual growth in process improvements, efficiency and cost effectiveness. The primary goal of this position is to achieve excellence in all facets of the position. Providing the highest quality product safely, effectively and efficiently decreases accidents and errors and increases profits. Essential Functions: Prepare month-end close journal entries and account reconciliations in accordance with GAAP. Prepare month-end and quarter-end flux/account analysis. Perform internal controls in compliance with SOX and internal procedures. Partner with the sales department to ensure completion of invoicing and proper revenue recognition. Collaborate with accounting management to implement changes to processes as necessary. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual census surveys. Provide support to internal and external auditors, assisting in audits and regulatory review. Actively participate in building a culture of continuous improvement Special Projects; as assigned employee will work with others within and outside department to complete tasks. Internal Control Responsibilities: Supports the Company's Internal Control process which includes understanding, communicating and complying with defined internal controls as well as suggesting and making modifications to the policies, procedures and controls to better relate to the business. Communicates upward problems in operations, noncompliance with the code of conduct, or other policy violations or illegal actions. Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not directly supervise any employees. Interpersonal Contacts: Internal contacts are by phone, email and in person with all levels of personnel throughout Radius Recycling related locations. External contacts are by phone, email, in person, and in writing: i.e. banks, financial institutions, etc. Incumbent interfaces with Corporate Finance, other finance professionals internal and external to company. Job Conditions: Average office environment with little natural light. Some overtime required to complete deadline work for month-end and year-end processing. Attendance is critical during the first two weeks of the month and during year-end processing. Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions: Ability to: lift and carry up to 10 pounds occasionally; sit for extended periods of time, up to 6-8 hours per day; write by hand and keyboard for extended periods of time, up to 6-8 hours per day; assemble papers, paper punch, staple, file; apply sufficient force to open and close file drawers. Ability to communicate by speech and hearing continuously. Communication is primarily by phone, email and sometimes in person, with other departments within the Schnitzer Group. Visual acuity needed for close detail work, preparing and analyzing data figures, accounting, and computer use. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field. 3-5 years of accounting experience; responsibility for company general ledger, cost accounting, and financial statements preferred. Proficiency in ERP systems (preferably ORACLE). Strong analytical skills and attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to build strong relationships and effectively communicate. Willingness to challenge conventional thinking for the betterment of the company.
