Position Description
The Staff Accountant is an important team member in the day-to-day financial operations of the organization. This role supports the accounting department by maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and assisting with month-end closing processes. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. This position is based in the Gainesville office.
Duties & Responsibilities
- General Ledger Maintenance: Assist in maintaining accurate and complete general ledger entries, including posting journal entries and ensuring proper documentation.
- Accounts Receivable
- Recording and applying incoming payments to customer accounts in a timely and accurate manner.
- Reconcile accounts receivable and follow-up on outstanding payments.
- Following up with customers on overdue payments, sending reminders, and initiating collection actions if necessary.
- Generating reports on outstanding balances, payment trends, aging reports (showing overdue payments), and cash flow forecasts.
- Bank Reconciliations: Perform daily bank reconciliations and investigate discrepancies as needed.
- Financial Reporting: Assist in preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
- Month-End Close: Assist in month-end close processes, including posting adjusting journal entries, accruals, reversals, and general ledger review and account reconciliations.
- Audit Support: Assist with the preparation of materials and documentation for external audits.
- Expense Reporting: Process and review employee expense reports for accuracy and adherence to company policies.
- Fixed Assets: Maintain the fixed asset register, including recording additions, dispositions, and depreciation.
- Budgeting and Forecasting: Support the budgeting and forecasting process by providing accurate financial information and analysis. Work closely with controller to review financial performance and offer insights on variances between actuals and budget, trends and forecast.
- Continuous Improvement: Work to identify and implement accounting systems continuous improvement plans.
- Special Projects: Participate in various special projects as required by the accounting department or management
- Support accounting activities assigned to meet financial accounting objectives
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2-4 years of experience in accounting or related field.
- General understanding of accounting principles & U.S. GAAP.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Netsuite), Microsoft Office applications, and specifically Excel.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of accounting work
- Keen problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial audiences.
- Proven ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with month-end close processes and financial reporting.
- Familiarity with ERP system implementations.
- Experience with Netsuite accounting software
Compensation
- $65,000 - $75,000 plus bonus opportunities
