The Controllers Office is responsible for general accounting, reporting, reconciliation, and financial compliance for the University. Under the supervision of the Associate Controller, the Staff Accountant will aid in the management, preparation and administration of financial reporting, preparing accounting transactions and reconciliations, and providing timely and relevant information to the team. Responsible for overseeing and ensuring the integrity of data flow from certain interfaces and providing support in preparation for the Universitys annual financial statement, annual tax return, and external audit. Responsibilities include: Perform reconciliation procedures and monitoring of numerous balance sheet accounts including, but not limited to, long-term investments, loan funds, prepaid expenses and accrued liabilities. Involves verifying entries are recorded correctly and navigating through systems and reporting tools to independently investigate and resolve routine and non-routine discrepancies. Process Universitys unclaimed assets. Process the recurring University pay cycle for non-payroll payment transactions, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting. Primary investment accountant, functioning as the liaison between the investments office and endowment gifts. Specific duties include communicating the monthly gifts and expenses to investments, reconciling due to/due from accounts, recording monthly investment return entries. Oversee the integration of other systems and JPMorgan with Workday, ensuring data accuracy and consistency across platforms. Conduct regular reconciliations of accounts and inter-system transactions to identify discrepancies and implement corrective measures. A large part of the job is reconciling accounts and resolving issues and discrepancies. The person filling this role is expected to be a proactive problem solver, not only researching and resolving issues that arise but offering solutions to avoid future issues. This position offers a hybrid work schedule with on-campus and remote work schedules. Hybrid work schedule will only be considered for residents of MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, RI, or NY. (Relocation assistance to CT may be available for those who qualify). Minimum Qualifications Associates degree with a concentration in accounting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Knowledge of Accounting principles, practices, methods, and terminology. Proven knowledge of basic MS Word and intermediate Excel [pivot tables, vlookups, formulas, sorting]. Knowledge of how to process large quantities of data from a financial system and create summary reports in a timely manner with high attention to detail. Demonstrated organizational skills, as well as an ability to interact and communicate. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with team members and other partners. Strong analytical, organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications Accounting experience in a higher education and/or non-profit setting. A proven problem solver who takes the initiative to identify opportunities for and implementation of business process improvement efforts. This includes demonstrated ability to automate processes that create efficiencies. Position is open until filled.
