FLORIDA COMMISSION ON OFFENDER REVIEW

The Florida Commission on Offender Review, formerly known as the Florida Parole Commission, is looking to fill a Staff Assistant - CS. The Commission on Offender Review performs a vital role in Florida's criminal justice system by preserving the autonomy needed in post-release decisions affecting inmates and ex-offenders. The commission functions as a quasi-judicial, decision-making body. Commissioners preside over weekly meetings at the central office in Tallahassee and various other state locations as required by statute. During these public proceedings, the commissioners make a variety of determinations regarding parole and other releases.

Position Description:
The staff assistant performs varied and extremely confidential work regarding revocation, parole interviews, clemency investigations and other work related to the Commission. Duties include but are not limited assisting the Regional Administrator and other staff with the daily operations of the Region.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
* Answers the telephone; responds to e-mail inquiries; types, proofreads, and distributes completed reports and documents; coordinates budget information; coordinates staff meetings and takes meeting minutes, maintains filing systems, and purges records in accordance and retention schedules.
* Receives and processes incoming and outgoing mail, screens correspondence and other materials to determine proper handling, processing incoming bills/invoices in accordance with the State of Florida Prompt Payment law. Maintains office logbooks consistently to be assigned and completed by investigators.
* Prepares routine correspondence for the Regional Administrator, responds to routine requests for information from the public, the Regional Administrator's records, and work files.
* Runs FCIC/NCIC criminal history and driver license reports.
* Performs research, prepares reports, and briefs the Regional Administrator or other staff regarding the requested information.
* Maintains an updated library of administrative rules, procedure directives, legal opinions, Florida Statutes, agency policies, Agency Head, Director of Operations, Regional Administrator, and any other policymaker as appropriate; and assists staff in researching from these sources.
* Performs other duties as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
* High School Diploma.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
* Knowledge of administrative principles and practices.
* Knowledge of standard business formats and styles for letters and business forms.
* Knowledge of correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar usage.
* Knowledge of proper telephone etiquette techniques. Skill in using personal computers to compose letters, memoranda, and reports.
* Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
* Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
* Ability to use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
* Ability to type letters, memoranda, and other standard business forms in correct format.
As part of the interview process, a work sample may be required.
