OFFICIAL TITLE: Staff Assistant, Assistant Athletic Trainer (10-Month Position)
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Head Athletic Trainer
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Graduate Assistants/Interns/Student Assistants
General Statement of Duties: The Assistant Athletic Trainer (10 months annually) is responsible for providing athletic training services for the Worcester State University (WSU) Athletics Department. This position assists in providing optimal health care to WSU student-athletes by providing coverage within the athletic training facility, at practices, and at home and away events. Works directly with student-athletes to perform assessments, provide initial care for athletic injuries, and coordinate rehabilitation with team physicians. sports medicine staff, coaches, and strength and conditioning staff. This incumbent will work cooperatively with athletics staff, coaches, department personnel, and assist other staff athletic trainers in the management of all athletic team medical coverage. Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
Responsibilities:

(E) Assist the athletic sports medicine area of the Athletic Department at the university. (E) Provide care, prevention and treatment of athletic injuries to varsity athletes. (E) Provide coverage at varsity home contest and practices and coordinate coverage with opponents for away contests. (E) Help supervise a student assistants' program. (E) Provide record keeping information for all athletic injuries and insurance forms as needed. (E) Serve as liaison between Worcester State University and sports medicine clinics as needed. (E) Provide supervision and instruction to the athletic training room graduate assistants and interns. (E) Assist student athletes with insurance issues including coordination of HIPAA regulations. (E) Ability to travel to local and out-of-state athletic competitions during the academic school year and scheduled breaks this includes evenings, weekends and holidays as defined by the playing and practice schedules. (E) Develop and foster a positive working relationship with the administrative and coaching staff, student-athletes, University Health Services, and area physicians and hospitals. (E) Designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Clery Act. (E) Responsible for reporting to the Equal Opportunity Officer or Title IX Coordinator knowledge or receipt of reports of discrimination, discriminatory harassment, and retaliation from students or other members of the university community. (E) Demonstrates civility and professional, customer-service oriented behavior, worthy of emulation by other staff and students. (E) Responsible for contributing to the WSU Strategic Plan. (E) Responsible for contributing to Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action objectives. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA-BOC) Certification. Prior experience in the field of athletic training. Ability to plan, organize, and supervise the work of the sports medicine area. Thorough knowledge of current athletic training principles. Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills. Ability to lift 25lbs. with appropriate accommodation. Current certification in Professional Rescuer CPR/AED and First Aid. Eligible for MA licensure in Athletic Training.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's Degree. Athletic Training experience at the collegiate level.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position. This is a 10-month position, with a 9-week non-service period. The firm annual salary for this position is $55,000.
