Description
The Department of Workforce Development is comprised of the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Office of Adult Education, and the Office of Employer and Apprenticeship Services. Our Department connects Kentucky to employment, workforce information and training through Kentucky Career Centers.
The Department is seeking to fill a Staff Assistant position to serves as a chief administrative support position for a Cabinet Secretary, Commissioner or Executive Director in the analysis, formulation and administration of multi divisional and/or intra cabinet budgeting, policy planning and management policies with regard to programmatic areas assigned to that department or office.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
* Provides executive level support to the Commissioner and assists with special projects by developing, reviewing, and monitoring project plans. Performs project coordination with regard to internal communications and reporting for projects and identifies issues with rollout and implementation of key projects.
* Supports the Commissioner in managing information exchange and ensuring effective communication occurs within the agency, the leadership team, and with key stakeholder groups. Studies the organizational goals and strategies of the department and determines what changes can be made to better serve the executive team and agency operations.
* Undertakes tasks that support the ongoing implementation of Governance policies and procedures. Evaluates integrated functions of programs and proposes operational improvements. Reviews program, management and policy issues related to one or more department programs or entities and provides recommendations for the Commissioner.
* Requests studies and reports by other organizations and coordinates with staff internal and external to the agency in analysis, determining impact to the agency and services provided, and works to develop recommendations for change toward bettered service.
* Act as liaison between Commissioner, agencies, organizations & represents the agency on committees, commissions, task forces, as designated by the Commissioner. Assist the Commissioner in preparation/presentation of information in meetings or conferences. Writes, reviews, and monitors correspondence submitted for the Commissioner's signature for accuracy & conformity w/ policies & procedures.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a bachelor's degree
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Six years of administrative or management experience.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional administrative, management, or research experience will substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.

Working Conditions
Incumbents working in this job title primarily perform duties in an office setting. Minimal travel may be required.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
