Distinctive curricula in an international, culturally diverse supportive learning environment prepare graduates for life and leadership in an increasingly interconnectedworld.Position Description Summary/Purpose:Reporting to the Director of Counseling, the Part-Time Counselor provides personal therapy and psychological services to students at the University of Bridgeport. Duties include short-term therapy, crisis and emergency coverage, consultation, outreach, psycho-educational workshops, staff training and administrative duties as needed.This is a part-time position located on the Bridgeport Campus. The office hours for the student Counseling Center are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is flexibility on which days of the week may be worked; however, your schedule must be 3 full days per week (8 hours per day).Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:(The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.)* Provides individual and group counseling to student clients;* Assists in crisis intervention and emergency coverage as necessary;* Provides outreach on mental health issues to campus community;* Participates in the training of Residential Life Staff, Faculty, Campus Security, Athletic staff, and other departments in the campus community;* Establishes a professional working relationship with all Division of Student Affairs staff;* Attends meetings with Counseling Services staff as scheduled;* Provides clinical supervision to Master's level Counseling Interns as requested;* Attends Campus community events on behalf of and as a representative of Counseling Services;* Maintains privileged-level confidentiality of clients and client files as required by ethical, legal and governing boards' guidelines;* Stays current with best practices and clinical work;* Avoids dual roles, multiple relationships with clients;* Manages and maintains client related paperwork and documentation as per confidentiality guidelines;* Is current and informed regarding walk-in crisis situations, consultations, reach-outs, follow-ups for incidents involving campus security and other Counseling Services daily activities;* Performs other related administrative and counseling duties as required;* Conducts all work in a safe manner and all work safety practices are followed.Other Functions:* Performs similar or related work as required, directed or as situation dictates.* Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.* Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.Knowledge, Ability and Skill:* Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.* Exceptional interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.* Proficient computer skills* Professional demeanor and ability to interact well with the campus constituents* Experience and sensitivity in working with an ethnically diverse student and staff population.* Capable of handling psychological on-call responsibilities.* Ability to handle confidential information on a routine basis* Knowledge of the operational structure of the university's offices and resources, ability to make appropriate referralsPreferred: Multicultural counseling, experience with first-generation college students, and AOD interventions.QualificationsEducation, Training and Experience:* A Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work or related field is required.* Minimum 3 years of experience in a related Counseling field* Clinical licensure from the state of Connecticut (i.e.: LCSW, LMFT, LPC), is preferred.* An understanding of the ethical and legal guidelines of psychological practice as well as a strong theoretical and clinical background.* Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as neededSalary:* $25 per hourPhysical and Mental Requirements:Work Environment None Under 1/3 1/3 to 2/3 Over 2/3 Outdoor Weather Conditions X Work with fumes or airborne particles X Work near moving mechanical parts X Risk of electrical shock X Vibration XPhysical Activity None Under 1/3 1/3 to 2/3 Over 2/3 Standing X Walking X Sitting X Talking & Hearing X Using hands/fingers to handle/feel X Climbing or balancing X Bending, pulling, pushing X Driving XLifting Requirements None Under 1/3 1/3 to 2/3 Over 2/3 Up to 10 pounds X Up to 25 pounds X Up to 50 pounds X Up to 75 pounds X Up to 100 pounds X Over 100 pounds XVision requirements (Especially relevant if driving is required by the job)__X_ Close vision (i.e. clear vision at 20 inches or less)__X __ Distance vision (i.e. clear vision at 20 feet or more)__X __ Color vision (i.e. ability to identify and distinguish colors)__X __ Peripheral vision (i.e. ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down orleft and right while the eyes are fixed on a given point)__X __ Depth perception (i.e. three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances andspatial relationships)_____ No special vision requirementsFull-Time Employee Benefits:* Medical Insurance* Dental Insurance* Vision Insurance* Pet Insurance* 401k employer match* Employee & dependent life insurance* Great tuition benefits for employee, spouse & dependents* PTO program* Flexible work schedules / work from home opportunities(This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between The University of Bridgeport and employee.
